Gettin’ Nerdy With It At #WIB

QIC: Beverly

Date: 2/15/18

PAX: Root Canal, Van Pelt, Sleeper, Toe Tag, Hedwig, Lite Brite, Palin, Rust Bucket (WD), Zima, Katahdin (WB), Pita

The concept was simple, although the Q botched the delivery and overcomplicated it anyway. The idea was to run the 5 points, using the intersection of all 5 as the hub. All this is honor of the ENIAC (Electronic Numerical Integrator and Computer), which was unveiled on this day in 1948. It was one of the first computers ever created and has been instrumental in computer development. So instrumental that Philadelphia (where it was created) gave it its own day.

While YHC seemed to be the only one who showed up for the party, 11 other PAX did come out to better themselves through fitness and fellowship, all while humoring the Q in his plan.

Upon arrival at 0522 (which YHC thought was early for a workout, but not WIB), Lite Brite started in immediately with his scathing critique of the preblast. Clearly he didn’t think the Q did a very good job of explaining it the plan. The wise Van Pelt – who demonstrated his wisdom throughout the beatdown – understood it and helped YHC explain it to LB.

After a lengthy overview and demonstration of the exercises, we were off to achieve the following:

Run counterclockwise around the five points:

  1. Start at Whole Foods, R on 1st, stop at Springdale – BACK TO CENTER
    • 20 E2K
  2. R on Stratford, stop at Warwick – BACK TO CENTER
    • 15 Nolan Ryans each side
  3. R on Country Club, stop at PNC Bank – BACK TO CENTER
    • 10 Iron Mikes each leg
  4. R on Stratford, stop at Five Points Restaurant – BACK TO CENTER
    • 15 Alternating Shoulder Taps
  5. R on Miller, stop at Publix
    • 20 Crucible merkins

Repeato by increasing each exercise by 5 each round until time is called. Everyone made it around the horn at least 3 times. Zima, overachiever that he is, made it 3.4 times and still wasn’t breathing heavy during COT.

COT

  • Prayers for those battling addiction
  • Prayers for the students and families of students in Parkland, FL, as well as our leaders faced with deciding what can and should be done to prevent/curb these types of events
  • Site Qs – update your calendar
  • 6 degrees and M welcomed their first 2.0, or “7th degree”, on Wednesday. It was either a boy or a girl. Congrats!

NMM

  • YHC met Katahdin and Sleeper for the first time. Katahdin’s name generated quite a bit of discussion, although Van Pelt educated us that Katahdin is the highest peak in Maine. #themoreyouknow
  • I don’t attend WIB very often, and was pleasantly surprised to see a double-digit turnout which, the regulars mentioned, is pretty common these days. T-claps to the site Q, Thistle!
  • Speaking of Thistle, despite his HC on Twitter, he was not in attendance. There were many rumors swirling regarding his absence, but my hunch is that he was up all night bingeing on old Jeopardy! episodes as he prepped for his Mensa exam. Good luck, Thistle!
  • It was not part of the plan to make the route look like a Starfish when viewed on MMR – yet ironic given the starfish strategy of F3. Would have been even more ironic if Starfish had attended.
  • YHC was pleased to steal Palin from TRQ today by unintentionally plotting the launch point .5 miles from his doorstep. T-Claps on the RIRO, hope you didn’t reinjure yourself.
  • Does Hedwig ever stop smiling?
  • Ask Root Canal for free Thunderbird tickets. He’s got the hook up. And he’s learne3d to speak Russian. It’s a long story, but funny.
  • Total mileage for most was 4-5 miles with around 375-400 reps. Strong work. Those Iron Mikes were terrible and I will be sure to add them to more workouts in the future.
  • In case it doesn’t show PAX in attendance above, they were: Root Canal, Van Pelt, Sleeper, Toe Tag, Hedwig, Lite Brite, Palin, Rust Bucket (WD), Zima, Katahdin (WB), Pita

Great job Beverly – thanks for leading. And appreciate the prayers and encouragement of the PAX, late night studying via UNC’s online course program and numerous tutoring sessions with Alex Trebek — I am a provisional, junior, non-voting, temporary member of MENSA – I was awarded the title of Stable Genius. It was all worth it.

Sick kids kept me away from this one, unfortunately… But I do always appreciate a nerdy theme!
