When Will You People Learn Your Lesson

QIC: Burns

Date: 6.3.2022

PAX: Turnover, Post Hole, Lamb Chop, Dr. Toot (!!), Hansel, Gretel, Spittoon, Spicoli, Crash, Drip, Schlitz, Chick Flick, Frostbite, former FNG Reading Rainbow, Burns

YHC was grateful to Post Hole and Turnover for the company on a EC 5k. We enjoyed a reasonable pace (depends on who you ask), discussed the prices of used cars versus new (among other topics), and stayed on as flat of a track as you can get downtown.

Returning to the launch point to see more than a handful of warm bodies was a pleasant surprise. I was informed of the presence of our FNG, Parker Johnson (more on him later) and I began to lament that all of our best and brightest pax still haven’t learned that my Qs are no fun and they should avoid them at all costs.

We began with 5 core principles and the mission statement recited flawlessly. Then we did some stretchy stretches, 10 merkins IC, 10 SSH IC, 10 Hillbillies IC, 10 Michael Phelps IC.

Then we began the thang – 6 stations in a clockwise pattern around Bailey park.

Station 1 – waterfall

Divebombers, [bootstrap] squats

Station 2 – stage

American hammers, bonnie blairs

Station 3 – courtyard

Dips, irkins

Station 4 – vacant lot

Merkins (side shuffle) ASTs (side shuffle back)

Station 5 – fair witness

Mtn climbers (hill sprint, mosey back), freddie mercs (hill sprint, take stairs down)

Station 6 – coal pit

Mike tysons, plank jacks

We started with 10 reps of each exercise, then on lap 2 we did 15, and on lap 3 we did 20. That was all we had time for, so we circled back up at launch for 20 Heels to Heaven IC before we all collapsed into our growing sweat angels.

Although many pax “applauded” the difficulty of today’s beatdown, I still don’t think it was enough to deter them from coming out to a future Burns Q or for the site Q to ban me indefinitely.

YHC chose to emphasize the bootstrap descriptor of the squats for some of our less flexible pax (lambchop). He then let everyone know that he likes to go out on the weekend in his thigh-highs.

Lambchop also did a great job welcoming in our FNG today and giving him the push and encouragement to battle through a markedly difficult beatdown. I was impressed with RR’s resolve and grit, he seemed sufficiently wiped out. I know another guy who was walloped at his first post at an Urban Assault led by a pax notorious for ratcheting up the first F when he’s on Q, and that guy is still around after four years and counting.

On our way to the second station, Root Canal joined us for some mostly 2nd F but he got in his fair share of dips and merkins throughout the morning!

Spicoli & Crash were flying through the 2nd round until they realized they were only doing 10 reps still! T-claps for making up the missed reps and powering through.

Hansel has another gear that he hits about 25 minutes into a beatdown where everything seems too easy for him.

Gretel, Spittoon, and Schlitz are 3 HIM that we’ve thankfully added to our already strong crew. Loved working out with each of these three this morning.

Turnover had some complaints about the increasing numbers of reps to which I responded, I hear your concerns and think you have some very valid points, but I’m not going to do anything about it. Does that make me qualified to run for Congress?

*ctrl+v* “Post Hole and Drip are aliens who are always smiling and never get tired”

Chick Flick & Frostbite, I’m thankful for you in ways you don’t know. But one very tangible thing that you bring to our beatdowns is that I am no longer consistently the War Baby. Thank you.

Frostbite brought out today’s FNG, Parker Johnson. He works at Reynolds in marketing, graduated from Brown (smartypants), and volunteers with the YMCA ESL reading programs, in part because he is fluent in Spanish. Part of the volunteer work involves reading to children at the library, thus Reading Rainbow came to be. Welcome, and we hope to see you soon!

Announcements:

Come to The Launchpad on Monday! 0530, Oak Summit Park.  Beverly is doing something, Spicoli said to look at his facebook.

Prayer requests:

Lamb Chop has a coworker that had unsuccessful IVF treatment, and another friend who just lost his job. Turnover, too, knows a couple that had unsuccessful IVF, and another couple who lost their infant only a couple of days after birth. Spicoli raised a request for those struggling with addiction and those walking alongside them.

YHC took us out. There’s a lot of darkness in this world, and the world’s darkness just seems to beget more darkness. By getting up and strengthening ourselves to be leaders, we get to (and I argue have to) combat that darkness with light. Go forth and be men of light today

Thanks for the keys, Post Hole, I’ll take em back in the future if you’ll have me.
