A Return to Kentner Stadium

QIC: Van Gogh

Date: 6/17/2021

PAX: Mutton, Huckleberry, Workbench, Burns (WB), Root Canal (WD), Van Gogh (QIC)

YHC was on deck to Q WIB, and as the Site Q, Dr. Toot, made his confirmation call he was warned it might not happen due to a bad toe. Thankfully, the Toe God’s were kind to YHC and all went according to plan… at least for me. The PAX were all warned not to show up and go to Seaman’s V instead, but 5 PAX didn’t listen (thankfully). We would be digging up and oldie but a goodie, with some slight modifications, and visiting Kentner Stadium. The morning was a cool 53 degrees, which made it quite enjoyable… until it wasn’t!

    • Prayers/Praise for Bevo and their 2 week old 2.3 (who is up to 12lbs!).
    • Continued prayers for Giles and his M, who they now know has stage 3 breast cancer. Praise they for the hope they were seeking with good news this week.
    • YHC took us out giving thanks

  • NMM
    • 2.5 miles total
    • 15 stair cases = 450 stairs
    • Rep increases due Pull-ups and Merkins went to 5, 10, 15, 20, 25 (75 total each)
    • Rep increases for Burpees got a bit stupid… of 3, 18, 33, 48, 3 (105 total)
    • YHC arrived early to scope out the track… as suspected, the handicap ramp was gated off now but luckily, the stairs to enter were open. The goals were lined up for pull ups, and a test run up/down the bleachers took place with trash cans set to show the turn around points.
    • Slowly the PAX arrived, with Root Canal there first, honoring his HC. Burns, then Huck and Workbench arrived. Mutton rounded us out to a crew of 6.
    • The guys were reminded of our previous journey here in 2018, to which some started to get in kings of a memory.
    • As we turned into campus, the guys were asked for the core principles, which were all known. The first WIB here YHC led I was just starting to get serious about knowing the mission statement and core principles… glad to know they are more widely known these days!
    • As we approached the stadium, Huck said “I’ve been here before…” it turns out Root Canal was the only PAX present 3+ years ago.
    • Burns, Huck and Mutton were all present for an Estate beatdown the week before the WIB that ventured here where we did 200 supones. It can never be repeated though because the fence around the track is gone. 🙁
    • Lots of scary memories no doubt…
    • As we entered the stadium, we checked out the Field Hockey goals and did pull ups.
    • Burns doesn’t like square tubing for pull ups.
    • The guys commented something about Spartan training when we had to go over two cables… not quite gents!
    • The guys began theorizing when it was going to get bad, and it started happening when they learned burpees all increased by 5 reps … so on our 3rd trip, doing 11 burpees three times atop each stairwell… it got bad. The 4th round took us beyond bad. The 5th round was redemption with a single (and necessary for time)
    • Huck is so fast at Butpees he did 21 by accident the 3rd round and still beat us all.
    • Root Canal was tempted to skip burpees, but made up for them at CoT.
    • Burns was happy to make gains on his 2021 challenge.
    • Workbench was happy to experience Kentner for the first time, and is hoping it’ll be 3 years til the next trip back.
    • Mutton was the only guy smart enough to take a shortcut on the way back.
    • All of us stuck together this morning, opting for WWIIs til the 6 was up, and I’m glad we did. This strong crew was made stronger staying as a cohesive unit.
    • Glad to see a strong turnout for Sea-Man’s VQ at The Distillery!

A great morning, I really miss regularly running around campus and want to try and do it more often this summer (on the not so hot days). Thanks for joining me men, and for bringing back many fond memories of some precious Gun had in Kentner. Would still make a great AO! #Expansion

Root Canal, the keys are on the Google calendar!
