Neighborhood Night Watch?

QIC: Cherry Pie

Date: 08/09/18

PAX: Zima, Burlap, Mutton, Spamalot, Van Pelt, Hazer, BAM

Out of true respect & admiration for the WIB site Q, YHC chose a familiar AO a stone’s throw from his (Thistle’s) bedroom.  The pax was gravely disappointed when 6:15 arrived and he and his loyal sidekick Root Canal were nowhere to be seen.  The surprise of the morning – at least pre-beatdown – was the attendance of BAM.  Last time at this AO Cherry Pie and BAM had a little mano y mano fun…at least until BAM claimed gastrointestinal-lock-up (another story for another day).  In any case, the pax set out for a routine morning of WIB…which went a little like this…

Warm-o-Rama

  • Side Straddle Hop
  • Imperial Storm Trooper
  • Hill Billy  (love handle exercise)
  • Abe Vigoda

Beatdown – begin from “position A”

  • Run from Position A to Position B – approximately @ half way point
  • At Position B
    • 10 burpees
  • Run to Position A
  • At Position A
    • 15 jump squats
    • 15 merkin jacks
    • 15 full extension crunches
    • 15 Freddy Mercuries
  • RINSE & REPEAT for as many reps as possible – apparently 6 round trips is the record.
  • Mosey to Position A++ (aka: the parking lot)

YHC estimates that one lap is approximately 1/2 to 3/4 of a mile.  A more on the ball Q would know exact distance – CP never claimed to be on the ball (official disclaimer).  That said, yhc has to give full credit to Butter (and his hair) for first introducing the route….which feels like 90% uphill, 10% down and clearly 0% flat.  The run alone is a solid beatdown.  Although never in doubt, the entire pax took on WIB with great vigor….AND plenty of gum-smacking (aka: mumble chatter) along the way.  In fact, at one point Zima was so full bore on his gum smacking that yhc missed a very important turn.  Had Van Pelt, Burlap and the rest of the pax not yelled out for a “course correction” Cherry Pie would have ended up at Smith Reynolds Airport (with Zima still chirping in his ear no less).  Hazer & Spamalot seemed to stay away from the fray, but provided a consistent push for any would be (or wannabe) stragglers.  Mutton, as usual, just went with the flow and gritted it out…the dude’s consistency is pretty darn impressive.  Likewise, Van Pelt, Zima, Burlap and BAM were all getting after it…not without lip service as previously mentioned…but this is to be expected from these 4 very verbal overachievers.  On a related note, a great deal was made of Van Pelt’s beatdown at Mayhem the day before.  Again, no surprise….CP was happy to hear about it and even happier not to have been there.  As always, it was an honor to be present among these fine men and true gentlemen.

Oh yes….and back to our site Q.  When confronted about his non-appearance (aka:  f_tsacking 100 yards from the AO) he claimed to have been on the late shift of Neighborhood Night Watch and thus unable to exit his subsequent deep slumber.  CP is not one to cast stones and will leave it at that.

Announcements & Prayer Requests

  • Lots of obstacle course opportunities coming up – talk to Palin, Huckleberry, Van Gogh
  • Schmedfest – will be here soon!
  • Mutton – many thanks for the prayers, which gave him peace during an important exam – went well.
  • Prayers for Kemp Otto’s family (“Hoser”) – Kemp worked for Wells Fargo and died unexpectedly last week
  • Prayers for back to school and those kids who struggle with anxiety – especially this time of year

Yhc took us out, always thankful for our abilities and the saving grace of Jesus.

This was hard. The PB called it runner friendly but what CP meant was that runners would be able to complete a few rounds and the non-runners would die trying. Thanks to Mutton for the pull and BAM for the push.

Just thankful not to be blamed for slowing CP down this time since he had Zima to run with!

Having been subjected to this last year, YHC was overjoyed to see it return. Same bat time, same bat channel. Glad to keep Hazer company along the way!

I must comment because the good name of #Thistle has been besmirched. My fellow WIBers, mainly the angry Q/CP, must always support and back our local law enforcement. One of the ways I give back to my community is serving as our first line of defense. Neighborhood Watch is tiring, but rewarding. I have seen many a yard cart turned over or yard sale signs placed in unauthorized places. If I keep my nose clean and am alert for a few more years, there is a security job for me at Wake Forest women’s filed hockey matches. Dare to dream. So yes, I slept in on Thursday, but I serve so you can sleep better knowing I am on watch.
