A Psychotic Beatdown

QIC: Doublewide

Date: 12.21.2023

PAX: Bam, Boomerang, Green Acres, Singing Cowboy, Starfish

I told the assembled PAX how my wife was talking to one of her best friends last night while I was writing my plan on cardboard. My wife told her friend how I have gotten up at 04:45 every morning this week. Her friend, who knows I’m a teacher and knows I’m off all week, started to have a real conversation with my wife about how I could be either psychotic or a serial killer (sounds like her husband needs to come join us!). So, I felt all warm inside when 5 other “psychotic” men showed up in the gloom for a TRQ beatdown.

Once the initial kinks were worked out with Spotify (which, FYI, won’t work on the school wifi), we made our way to the brick wall (not that one) surrounding the tree by the flagpole and proceeded to try a 7-layer dip (21 dips after each exercise in honor of the Winter Solstice):

  • Bulgarian squats (each leg)
  • 1-leg step ups (each leg)
  • Squat jumps
  • Electric chair (thank you, @Burns)
  • Side lunges

We made our way through the parking lot while doing lunges and Apollo Creeds and moseyed the rest of the way to the rock pile. From there, I set up a 21-second tabata timer as we cycled 4 times through:

  • Curls & overhead press
  • Bent over row & bus driver
  • Chest press & American hammer
  • Heels to heaven & Freddy Mercury

To the wall (yes that one) for a wall sit and balls to the wall (you’re welcome, GA). Back to the start for Mary in which I tried (and failed) to have the PAX do an exercise I can’t remember the name of (it’s not a dying cockroach, crunchy frog, or a gas pump). Finished with Superman & banana.

Announcements: convergence at Speas (probably?) on Saturday

Prayers for families, as Cowboy said, who have less chairs at their table this year.

NMM (which I still don’t understand what it means)

-Great to see Starfish out. I haven’t worked out with you in a while and you said your knee has been bothering you. Hope it heals quickly to see you at the TRQ Run Club soon.

-Also nursing a setback was Bam, who showed up and crushed both the pre-run and the beatdown, despite still working his way through cough/cold/congestion/sinus issues. Strong work!

-I invited myself (and you should, too) over to both Boomerang’s family’s Christmas dinner of Chilean sea bass and the next day’s meal of brisket. Can’t wait to join the fam!

-I didn’t mention this to him, but I feel Green Acres and I have developed a new level of our relationship this morning when Cowboy noticed a figure running ahead of us. I was able to confirm it was GA, from 50 feet away and in the dark, solely by his running gait.

-Cowboy also accompanied me on the pre-run. He blames me, but every time I run with him, we ALWAYS manage to run the mile back faster. Thanks for always pushing me harder than I would on my own. Next time, I hope @Wild Thing can make it out! Here’s hoping Santa brings you exactly what you want this year.

Thanks for letting me lead this morning, GA. I’ll keep my flashing light on for when you need me again.

    1. NMM – Naked Man Moleskin – I’m assuming Moleskin is the well known type of journal books you can buy to chronicle events during your day, the Naked Man portion is possibly a euphemism for open/vulnerable/nothing to hide. The fact that it’s not on the national Lexicon is a swing and miss
    2. Cowboy is sneaky that way.

You learn something new each day. Thanks Bam!

ha! Well thanks for throwing it out there. A good reminder, especially with the 10 year coming up, to share some of the random/useless info we’ve captured over the years with others. Rather than, “I don’t know, that’s just what we’ve always done.” The bad part about random/obscure references, is you kinda have to let folks in on the joke if you want them to enjoy it with you!

Great job Doublewide! And that moseying gait of mine is formally known as The Old Man Shuffle. Thanks for leading this morning! (I also had to ask what NMM is just a few weeks ago! 😁)
