Ten years or 20 years will come and go, whether you do anything or not, whether you innovate or not, and whether you improve or not, so why not get going on it right now?

Your boy Wobegon recently finished reading “Guitar Lessons” by Bob Taylor, founder and luthier for, you guessed it, Taylor Guitars.  Founded in ’74, Taylor makes, in YHCs opinion, possibly the best acoustic guitars on the market. Played by the likes of Prince and Neil Young and having a role in launching the career of Taylor Swift (read the book!), don’t take my word for it, but feel free to ask me about the new American Dream model, Grand Pacific body style mahogany top and sapele sides guitar I just acquired if you want to hear more geeky guitar takes.

In his book, which is primarily a business-related read, he shared this quote which I dog-eared and kept in mind:

Ten years or 20 years will come and go, whether you do anything or not, whether you innovate or not, and whether you improve or not, so why not get going on it right now?

It seemed like the logical thing was to base a workout around it. As natural as playing a G between the C and Em.  It went like this:

Warm-O-Rama was your standard with a little creative counting during the Abes.

Ten Years: Merkins/LBCs/Squats

Ten sets, 10 of each first set, lunge walk a few feet, subtract one. So:

  • 10 Merkins
  • 10 LBCs
  • 10 Squats

Lunge Walk

  • 9 Merkins
  • 9 LBCs
  • 9 Squats

On down….

LESSON: the years move faster each year. Hopefully, things will also get easier as we learn and improve.

Twenty Years: Rocks

Twenty sets, 1 rep of each

  • Curls
  • OHP
  • Skulls
  • Goblet
  • Burpee

LESSON: Twenty Years is going to come and go no matter what. It may suck if we don’t improve each year; staying static is less fun than improving.  This was not fun.

Legs at Lido Deck

  1. 10 Dips
  2. 20 Step Ups Left
  3. 10 Irkins
  4. 20 Step Ups Right
  5. 10 Dirkins
  6. 20 Alt Lunges
  7. 10 Merkins
  8. 20 Squats

LESSON: Don’t skip leg day.

Plank Up: hold called for a ten count. Varying planks around the circle (one arm, other arm, high, low, dog-related yoga moves)

Back to the front for Mary.

And done.
