The Launchpad, episode 1

QIC: Burns

Date: 6.6.2022

PAX: Transcript, former FNG Chowdah, Hansel, Gretel, Spicoli (WD), Schlitz, Palin, Burns (WB, QIC)

YHC did not know what to expect this AM, other than Transcript who had HCd. I was surprised and humbled that 7 PAX journeyed to my new neck of the woods to try out this F3 thing in a new spot.

I’ve attached an aerial of the AO for reference to the locations of today’s beatdown.

WOR (following 5 CPs, disclaimer, and Mission Statement, of course!)

15 SSH, 15 IST, 10 Copperhead Squat, 10 Michael Phelps (all IC)

The Thang: YHC wanted to introduce as many of the good beatdown features of the AO to all the fine PAX that showed up. We weren’t able to get to them all, but we hit 4 distinct areas.

Mosey to the track – 4 corners. Zima wasn’t there to remind me that tracks don’t have corners because they aren’t rectangular.

  • 10 merkins
  • 10 merkins & 20 squats
  • 10 merkins 20 squats & 30 plank jacks
  • 10 merkins 20 squats 30 plank jacks and 40 lbcs.

Mosey to the shelter – 7 layers of dip. Plenty of picnic tables under the shelter, maybe 15 or 20. Spicoli noted that they are all bolted into the cement, too. All exercises x15 OYO

  • R Leg step up, dips
  • Irkin, dips
  • L Leg step up, dips
  • Merkin, dips
  • Squatty potty, dips
  • Derkin, dips
  • Box jump, dips

Mosey to the playground, partner up. Not many great options for pullups, but the swingset was utilized for some supines. Partner A does 15 supine pullups while Partner B holds Al Gore. Flapjack. Repeato x4.

Mosey to the tennis courts. *see note* DORAcide. Partner A does exercise, Partner B runs halfway/back then all the way/back.

  • 100 merkins
  • 200 lbcs
  • 300 squats

Time was almost up so we moseyed back to the launch *see note* and did American Hammers x15 IC until time.

*AO rule – there is a bridge over a dry creekbed between the playground and the tennis courts. The only way to cross it is by bearcrawl. Normally at this juncture of a workout someone says “I don’t make the rules” and shrugs, but I do make the rules here. So just do it.

NMM

Upon arrival, apparently Schlitz told Palin that he’d spent time at the AO before doing a volunteer cleanup a couple of years ago. He recalled disposing of a high quantity of used heroin needles. So there’s that.

Giving some primer to former FNG Chowdah, Palin and Transcript were talking about how many F3 exercises have unique names, but don’t google them. Then Transcript said something about the blue waffle. Don’t google it. Blue Waffle was also briefly (<1s) considered as a name for the FNG.

Spicoli was on time to an AO 15 minutes from his house!!

Hansel admitted to copious amounts of speeding to get to Stanleyville from Lewisville, potentially endangering Gretel in the process.

Transcript posted in his neighborhood Facebook group with an invite to this morning’s beatdown and our former FNG responded to the EH. Tclaps, Transcript! Ed (last name) is in customer service training for Verizon which led to some good name suggestions, but ultimately his heritage did him in. Originally from the Boston area, his accent faint but not yet completely replaced by the much more pleasant yet passive aggressive North Carolina twang, we dubbed him Chowdah! He & Transcript plan on being at BnW on Wednesday.

We didn’t get to try out the quite large field this AM, but I’m sure future workouts will feature it. Palin didn’t seem to like that it was covered in dew, but there’s really no pleasing that guy.

In all seriousness, I am presently thankful for all of these pax who humored me in opening this AO, and am thankful already for those of you who will come check it out in the next couple of months. We’re just going to have it on the 1st and 3rd Mondays of the month to get started, then we’re gonna ramp it up to a weekly beatdown. SYITG!

YHC took us out praying for children and parents to have summers filled with mutual joy and patience for one another as schools are set to end this week.

  • A – gather & launch
  • B – field w/.25mi track
  • C – shelter w/picnic tables
  • D – playground
  • E – tennis courts
  • F – big ol’ field (unused today)
  • * – bearcrawl bridge
