21 punk rockers gathered in the gloom to mosh in all their glory as we celebrated CBGB&OMFUG at Bells & Whistles.  It was significantly colder at this recreation of CBGB’s than the original (#RIP).  For those of you who don’t know or who somehow missed YHC’s dorky yet relentless marketing campaign, CBGB is the self-proclaimed undisputed birthplace of punk founded on the Bowery in NYC by Hilly Krystal in 1973.  It hosted and/or launched the career of a veritable Who’s Who of bands, including Talking Heads, The Ramones, Elvis Costello, The Police, Blondie, Green Day and many many more.  While originally intended to host the namesake Country, Blue Grass, Blues & Other Music For Uplifting Gormandizers, it is most known for punk and new wave.  And chili (#NotReally).  This morning, it stood for: Curls, Bent Over Rows, Goblet Squats, Bell Swings, & (Sprint), Overhead Press, Merkins, Front Raises, Upright Rows, Getups, (Run).

COT:  YHC took us out.

FIN.

NMM

Shameless marketing and promotion really does work, as 21 were at least curious enough to come check it out after a full week of being force fed daily CBGB concert footage.  And YHC limited himself to only 7 days worth as the YouTube rabbit hole re:  CBGB was deep and wide and interesting.

Nobody slipped on the ice at turn 1.  Nice work.

@Bevo looked like a regular Stiv Bators (lead “singer” of Dead Boys) on his Turkish Getups.  He just forgot to staple three pieces of bologna to his shirt.

YHC thinks he saw @Manscape throw up the horns as he was rocking out over there.

@BAM’s mumblechatter game was strong.  At least he was moving his mouth a lot.  Couldn’t really make out what he was saying since YHC had strategically located himself right next to the speaker (#SmarterThanILook)

@Spamtan’s air guitar game on #BallAndChain was rockin’ and @Burlap sang all the girl parts on PrivateIdaho.

There were 5 Hates, 9 Ayes, 6 Respect and 1 Double Respect.  All members of the “Blank Generation” “living in the past, it’s a new generation” at least for this morning.  YHC tried to provide a wide ranging chronology of CBGB’s music…hopefully everyone found something they could dance or hum along to and maybe even some new to them tunes, too.

Speaking of tunes.  Here’s the playlist:

  • Sonic Reducer (Dead Boys)
  • Blitzkrieg Bop (Ramones)
  • Once in a Lifetime (Talking Heads)
  • One Way or Another (Blondie)
  • Pump It Up (Elvis Costello & The Attractions)
  • Next To You (The Police)
  • See No Evil (Television)
  • Blank Generation (Richard Hell & The Voidoids)
  • Bad Reputation (Joan Jett & The Blackhearts)
  • Private Idaho (B-52s)
  • Kiss Off (Violent Femmes)
  • Ball and Chain (Social Distortion)
  • Basket Case (Green Day)
  • Sabotage (Beastie Boys)
  • Teenage Riot (Sonic Youth)

ANNOUNCEMENTS

  • @Beverly’s run for HOPE is this Saturday, 1/16.  He promises to go slow.  Probably not slow enough for some of us.
  • @Cobra is launching a roaming nomad jump rope workout.  And he’s even now on Slack so watch there and/or the Twitter for details.
  • #greeNest is now officially a thing.  We are covering the 1st and 3rd Saturdays for pickup and delivery of furniture for Winston-Salem’s community furniture bank which helps out folks that are emerging from having experienced homelessness (#InvigoratingCommunity #AllThreeFs)  @TheSingingCowboy has the Q this Saturday, 1/16 and @BAM has the Q on Saturday.

Thanks again for obliging my music nerdiness and for the honor and privilege of leading this morning.

Rock on!

Your friend,

Starfish

While it’s not necessary to go to these lengths to plan a Q, it is well worth it! Thanks for putting the the “work” of doing all that painful research!

This is also an example of why site Q’s should reach out to as many pax as possible to keep the Q rotation varied. It does take effort and time to come up with a theme, etc. So, the more pax we can invite into step into the middle, the better we are all for it! And as Joan Jett famously said, “I don’t give a damn about my reputation.”

Starfish followed through on his week long marketing effort! Great workout. The speaker was turned up to 11 for banger after banger, which made it hard to hear instructions and or MC. Well played.

TClaps for the 6 BNW Ruckers! All are welcome to join at 4:45 for a pre beatdown 2 miles.
