Driving to Greensboro today for my sometimes-weekly recon mission to my office to use the printer, pick up envelopes wave at masked co-workers across the divide, I listened to a talk by Tara Brach. Interesting talk, but one thing stuck out.

I’ll paraphrase: once, in India, a group of men created a new public golf course. One problem: native monkeys kept interfering with the course. Stealing balls, annoying golfers, you can imagine. The owners tried fences, traps, nothing worked. The solution? It is now in the rules that golfers at that course must play the ball where the monkey drops it. There was a larger point made: sometimes we can’t control things, we can only play it as the monkey lays it.

Coming off a less than perfectly executed Q, this made sense. We played it as it was laid for sure this morning. We can only control how we respond (Learning how to “respond” and not “react” was the theme).

But I digress.

It went like this:

Warm-O-Rama was the usual fare.

We mosey down to the end of the lot, appreciate the 4H display set up near the playground, and line up for a Peleton run down the length of the lot. So far so good.

The First Routine:

  • Starting at designated light post (not stoplight, strike one), pax perform 20 LBCs
  • Mosey to next light, perform 19 merkins
  • Mosey around the bend to the benches, perform 18 dips
  • Back to start…17 LBCs.
  • On down.

Not bad.  This routine modified from a Cookie Q at F3 Cape Fear. There we started at 30 and bear crawls were involved.

Mosey to the OG starting point for the AO, up by the school. Circle up.

  • 20 squats, IC
  • 19 alternating lunges, IC
  • 18 squats, IC…
  • On down. Omaha at 15. Strike 2. Should have started at 10.

Mosey back, first to the bus cover area, but quick Omaha to use the hill driveway area (more room). Not a good decision!

The following also is stolen from Cookie:

  • three-step bear crawl, then push up (Hand-Foot-Hand-Push-up, sort-of). To the next light. Perform Bobby Hurly, continue.
  • Planned to do 4 lights, ended up doing 3. Strike THREE. So bad. Staying at the bus cover area would have worked better. Ah, well.

Mosey back to start. Extended Mary with some stretching worked in.

Done.

What a mess. To be clear: these are great routines, the Q’s timing was off. Will we see it again? It’s in the file. Who knows. Play the ball as the monkey lays it.

COT:

  • Splash on the Q next week. Girls Just Want To Have Fun.
  • Prayer requests:
    • Red  Cross needs donations.
    • Drip recovering from a procedure, in good spirits.
    • $5 Footlong, continued prayers for affliction.
    • Other guys carrying issues they may not be talking about. Reach out.

Thanks for the keys, Turnover. Great group, cool weather and honored to lead. Better next time.
