Famous Duets at Flatline

QIC: BAM

Date: 02/26/19

PAX: Thistle (WD), Root Canal, Butter, Cheesesteak (WB), Hazer, BAM

To avoid #fartsacking again, YHC took the Q reigns from Cherry Pie.  (CP may or may not be feeling under the weather).  Soon after taking said reigns, former Nantan Lysol tweeted a random tweet about YHC and Lady Gaga partnering up at Flatline.

Since YHC currently does not have her digits, a theme to celebrate real duets was born!

To honor the wishes of Flatline’s originator, Beverly, that pax should not stop moving during Flatline, the Q came in right at 0530, rolled out of his stylish 9 year old minivan, and launched!

Warm-o-rama

  • SSH (OYO while Q explained some things)
  • Squats (OYO while Q likes to hear himself talk)

The Thang

  • Mosey to Corpening Plaza to celebrate the duet of Dora & Boots!
  • Dora 1-2-3
    • 100 CDD
    • 200 Lunges
    • 300 Mt. Climbers
  • Mosey to 1st & Poplar to celebrate Sonny & Cher!
  • Bridge Over the Nest (check it out on F3 Website)
    • P1 starts bear crawling
    • P2 does 10 squats, merkins, & LBC’s
    • P2 runs to 1st & Spruce and then back to tag P1
    • Repeato
    • Do it again with Lunges
    • Do it again with crab walk #crowd pleaser
  • Mosey to Washington Park to celebrate Kenny Rogers & Dolly Parton!
    • Field of Dreams (or Islands in the Stream)
    • 15 Burpees at home plate
    • Squats at 1st Base
    • Irkins at 2nd Base
    • Freddie Merc’s at 3rd Base
    • All pax get 2 trips around the diamond (except Butter, not because he isn’t fit enough or willing to put in the effort or because he got confused like Thistle, we just needed to get back to our launch point)
  • Mosey back to where we started!

NMM

  • The Q decided to test the theory, that regardless of how clear a new exercise is in the Q’s brain, it will be confounding to the pax for a variety of reasons: poor explanation, we’re old, it’s early, Root Canal is chatting it up, we don’t really care, we’re old and we don’t like new fangled things, the pax don’t like the Q and enjoy messing with him
  • The theory once again proved to be true!  Pax were thoroughly confused at the new partner exercises, but once they got the “rhythm” of it, they all “enjoyed” them.
  • Thistle may have boasted about how well he figured out Bridge Over the Nest after round 2, his momentary hubris was quickly struck down as he attempted to switch partners, run first, then forget the exercises when we began round 3.  #pridecomesbeforethefall
  • Pax learned that 1st Street traffic is surprisingly busy early in the morning now that 40 is blown up!  #carup
  • Everybody loves crab walks for a city block
  • Just as pax got comfortable with one new set of exercises, we moseyed to Washington Park for another fun one.
  • The friendliness of Root Canal is usually a great source of joy in the morning, except when the Q is trying to keep the pax moving and so explaining things while we mosey is nigh on impossible
  • The pax recalled their favorite Kenny Rogers tunes, ranging from The Gambler to Coward of the County.
  • This time Thistle showed off his rhythm and lack of basic baseball knowledge by running just about all the way to BB&T (RIP) Field instead of following the pax down the short and straight line to the designated 1st Base
  • Worried that the Q would be late, Hazer muttered some comment like “Not that you care, you heartless sack of crap, but it’s already 0615 and we’re not back in the parking lot.”  At least that’s what YHC heard.
  • The Q tried to assure him that we hadn’t hit 45 minutes of effort yet, but when Hazer threatened to drain my bank accounts if YHC didn’t comply, we decided to deny Butter more burpees.
  • Evidently Hazer followed through on his threat, because there is no way after a career of youth ministry and non-profit work that my bank account could be that low.  Put the $$ back Hazer!

COT:

  • Prayers for Thistle’s memory (and pax were thankful his lung wasn’t actually coughed up during the workout)
  • Client/friend of Hazer’s – early 90’s recovering from the flu
  • Brandon Beardsley – friend of YHC, early 40’s, battling AML (leukemia)

Thanks boys!

Always enjoy the repartee. Thanks for the terrible Q.
