Getting the call to Q a couple days ago by the faithful site Q, YHC wanted to properly honor the last Purgatory of the year in style. One of the benefits of F3 Winston about to celebrate 5 years of “fun”, YHC has a few previous beatdowns to draw inspiration from. Finding one from April 2016 seemed far enough back to feel “fresh” for the fine gentlemen who might post today.

The headlights started pouring in, Van Pelt had questions about the level of dampness and/or mud he might come across during the next 60 minutes (evidently that kind of questioning was tolerated when he was down in the big city), the pax circled up and we were off!

Warm-o-rama

YHC suffers from CRN (can’t remember nothin’) so usually writes down even the warm up exercises. The pax witnessed why that was important after the Q needed help from pax to brainstorm options when the mind went blank.

The Q also dropped some knowledge on the pax. If you’re back isn’t feeling great, going to a trampoline park with your kids will NOT make it feel better. Evidently, repetitive compressing movements is not ideal. So, YHC reverted to a famous family recipe to help recover – Advil and bourbon.

The Thang

Route 66 – pax ran about a half mile down and back on Polo, stopping at street intersections to do ascending # of burpees – up to 11. #crowdpleaser

Johnny Cash – aka Ring of Fire

  • pax hold plank or static American Hammer kinda pose while one pax does an announced exercise, working the way around the ring
  • Low Flutters x 10 (not slow flutters btw)
  • LBC x 10
  • Box Cutters x 10

Cindy – you’ll have to ask a crossfit person why this is called Cindy

  • 20 minutes AMRAP
  • 5 Pull ups
  • 10 Merkins
  • 15 Squats

Mosey back to parking lot for 2 MoM

NMM

  • 1.6 miles covered, 98% covered in the first 20 minutes
  • Goofy enjoyed the Cindy portion so much, he might have asked when we would do more running & burpees. The Q reminded him, we can’t always do your fave exercises.
  • There was some confusion during Route 66 about when to do burpees and when to run. The roving trash truck’s fumes might have added to some of the confusion
  • VP wanted to borrow the Q’s dry spot on the court during Johnny Cash, something about protecting his weatherman good looks
  • The 2nd F was running high during Cindy, pax found creative ways to do really good form on their squats, almost as if they were trying to avoid other parts.
  • Sgt. Schultz showed the grit and determination with his “face that launched a 1000 ships” during the pull ups portion. And TClaps to Drip with his fine spotting form!
  • The general comments from pax were that this was a lovely workout time, although they wished it was a little more challenging. YHC promises to do better next year!
  • There was an extended discussion about the absence of the site Q over the past 6-9 months. Consensus was that his new job at the sunglass hut in the mall was more grueling than he was led to believe.
