16 Pax gathered on a hot, humid morning at Wiley for what promised to be an interesting beatdown by Hazer. Some of YHC’s favorite TV theme songs were playing as the Pax gathered in the gloom. Some songs heard were Cheers, Different Strokes, Miami Vice, Greatest American Hero, Friends, Party of 5 and others. YHC had not Q’d a bootcamp workout in nearly two years so had to shake some rust off. There was a promise of no burpees (although Thistle tried to sabotage during Mary) but the beatdown seemed to be sufficient. It went something like this:

The THANG:

Warm-O-Rama

SSH x 20

Whirly with the Clap x 10

Arm Swirlys forward and back x10

Abe Vigodas x5

We stayed in the parking lot for the first exercise which made its debut:

The Welcome Back Kotter:

All Pax got into plank position while the theme to Welcome Back Kotter was played. Every time the phrase “Welcome back” was sung the pax did a merkin otherwise stayed in plank position. There was a brief 10 second instrumental about 90 seconds in where one could take a breather if needed. All in all 36 merkins were done in the midst of 2:45 of planking. Strong work by all. The last 30 seconds were brutal.

So with our shoulders aching already we moseyed to the wall by the pull-up bars for:

WKRP in Cincinnati

Wide Arm Merkins

Kicks (Donkey)

Russian Twists

Plank Jacks

First did 10 of each (Balls to the wall waiting for the 6)

Next did 20 of each

Mosey to the track

(many females were on track and in shelter area so we moseyed to the park area) for:

Hawaii 5-0

Grab a partner

One partner runs to track and does a 100 m run and then back. Between the two partners do:

50 Derkins

50 Double Count Step-Ups

50 Urkins

50 Double Count Dips

Mosey to  Education Hill for:

Eight is Enough

Jump Squats at bottom of hill

WWII Sit Ups at top of hill

Start with 1 squat, run up hill and 7 sit -ups

Run down hill Then 2 squats,  run up hill and 6 sit ups

all the way to 7 squats, 1 sit up.

Mosey back to Parking Lot for Brief MARY

Mutton Crunches (R and L) x 10

Diamond Merkins x 10

END of WORKOUT

Announcements:

Convergence at The Estate on Monday at 7am. All workouts will meet there. Unsure about the Fastholes

Fingers is looking for a Q for Dawg Pound on Saturday

COT:

YHC took us out thanking God for the ability to workout and bring us through injuries. Praying for those currently working through injuries and reminding the Pax to reach out to those that aren’t able to work out right now and to be leaders at home and in the community as we are called to do whether we are at the head of the pack or the 6.

Moleskine:

Strong work by everyone and the music seemed to be a hit. Maybe it is because I was Qing but time seemed to fly by.

When I saw Rust Bucket having to do some walking toward the end I knew I had delivered a solid beatdown. Dude is scary strong.

Disappointed Glazer had to ask “What is this from” to the them from The Office – one of the greatest shows ever.

Whirly claimed to have guessed the Eight is Enough theme but on closer inspection he had actually guessed “Party of 8” – is that even a thing? This classic show chronicling the Bradford family was probably most famous for introducing two actors for the first time that were not part of the Bradford family – Ralph Macchio before his Karate Kid days and Heather Locklear before Melrose Place and Dynasty (and well before her sad decline).

Good to meet Screech and Kotters to him after a 5 week absence.

Thanks to my GAS Group boys TR and Whirly for making a special trip to Conspiracy to support YHC

Awesome to see Fingers who I hadn’t seen in a long time.

Opposite of T-Claps to Thistle who single-handedly on the last freaking Mary exercise tried to do Partner Burpees. YHC quickly kaboshed that attempt and we ended up doing Diamond Merkins by Thistle’s request (Questionable Mary exercise at best). Learned not to give Thistle the reigns during Mary

All in all a great morning and wonderful to be with my brothers in the Gloom. Thanks to Glazer for reaching out to me to Q.

Best AND worst part of reading this….the realization that at least half of the Pax have never seen a single episode of any of the shows mentioned. Reboot of Hawaii 5-0 does not count, even though Grace Park is in it.

Good call Spamalot. And seemed appropriate since at least half the Pax hadn’t heard of F3 the last time YHC Q’d a workout.

Yep, need a Dashpax decree that Thistle shant be called on for any Mary exercises. He’s done that at various workouts. He plays the “aw shucks, did I mess up?” card so well, you almost feel bad for him at his advanced age. But it’s all for show.
