Parting words from Site Q Thistle to YHC as I was getting into my car post-beatdown: “If you planned this out so you wouldn’t be asked to Q WIB again, it worked.”

Fine, Thistle. I didn’t want to Q WIB again, anyway. Here are your keys back. Proud moment #1.

How did we get to this heated moment? It started amiably enough, with a jog from La Caretta onto Peacehaven, then right on to Whitaker Ridge, with some light chatter.

We stopped at Novant for Station #1. I mentioned this was where Patch worked. “Who’s Patch?” came the response from Touch-Me-Not. Fair question. This is not really a running workout, after all. Zima mentioned he is a guy who posted at Mayhem yesterday but will probably never post to a bootcamp again.

We selected rocks from a pile and did:

  • 10 skull crushers
  • 20 curls
  • 30 goblet squats

Pax were instructed to increase each exercise by 5 reps each time through at all 4 stations.

So far not much MC, and the coolness was still present in the air. Zima and Huckleberry already started pulling away from the rest of us, with VP not far behind.

We sped up downhill towards the Robinhood traffic island. The humidity jumped up as we plummeted downwards. We stopped at the island for Station #2. Instructions were clearly printed on a piece of paper, and Thistle was in awe that YHC used a computer-thingy and printer-thingy to plan out the beatdown. We got into plank:

  • 10 wide merkins
  • 20 merkins
  • 30 reverse lunges

The lunges were planned intentionally as we prepared for our run through the “Death Trap” up Robinhood to CVS. No sidewalks, traffic at our back, weeds coming out into the road, all perfect conditions for an uphill grind after successive lunges. From here on out, things got ugly.

Station #3 was at CVS. Zima slowed down because he couldn’t find CVS and YHC briefly caught up to him. Proud moment #2. What better thing to do after a life-endangering run straight uphill but more cardio? So that’s just what we did. Again in plank:

  • 10 ski jumps IC
  • 20 plank jacks
  • 30 zebra kicks

Finally we looped back to La Caretta via Robinhood and Peacehaven. YHC was accused of cutting his own route short by running through the parking lot, but, since I never gave official directions, not sure how that is possible. Anyhow, station #4 was back in the parking lot. It consisted of:

  • 10 squat jumps
  • 20 lightpost irkins
  • 30 LBCs

Total loop was just over a mile. As we spread out, distances varied between 2.5-3.5 miles. YHC was beat at the end. The tireless Zima and Thistle ran back to get the 6, rubbing salt in the wound.

Thistle took us out.

Announcements

  • F3 Gear orders – see Zuck. It ends tomorrow!
  • July 4th convergence at Hanes Park. Gather at Brunson parking lot at 0700. 3 excellent Qs are slated.
  • Carteret F3 is highly recommended by Zima, if in the Emerald Isle area.
  • Thistle and M are doing a fundraiser in Scotland Co. this weekend. They expect to raise $6,000-$7,000 for a scholarship for a student in one of NCs lowest income counties. Nice work, Thistle!

NMM

  • We naturally split into groups today. It was nice working out with Van Pelt. I learned a lot about Del McCoury this morning, since VP had just seen him at the Stevens Center last night.
  • Zima complained that the beatdown was too difficult and called me bad names. Proud Moment #3
  • Whirly was hoping he got to run some today when he first arrived, but changed his mind after the first time up the Robinhood Hill.
  • I’ve said it before, but Mutton, VP, and Root Canal come out, get after it, and never complain. Tough #respects.
  • Huckleberry was a beast this morning – hanging with Zima the entire time.

    Typical comment for me:

    1) That sucked hard

    2) Glad I did it

Beverly – What a great group of courageous men. Two good things happened during WIB by Beverly:
    1) I got to see my two deceased parents since my life passed before my eyes playing chicken with sleepy motorists on Robinhood.
    2) It ended
Beverly – wish you had not thrown the keys in front of the new construction on the Robinhood hill. #Thistle=Frogger
