The PAX:  Pita, Huckleberry, Litterbox, Sleeper, Red Eye, Zima, Quiver, TPS, Ziggy Stardust, Pony Express, Balco, Offside, Beverly, Touch Me Not

15 PAX gathered for a physical and emotional beating at Mayhem.  We lifted heavy things, sprinted, did pullups, and ran hill repeats all while learning about Frederick Nietzsche, that peculiar 19th century German philosopher whose thoughts have shaped much of the world we live in today.  Even though he was the self-proclaimed anti-Christ/anti-Faither, YHC reassured that PAX that Nietzsche wouldn’t get the final say.

The Thang:

Warm-O-Rama:

  • 10 Annies (one arm plank with rotating cleaning motion)
  • 20 Mountain Climbers
  • 20 SSH
  • 10 Whirlys with the Claps
  • Mosey to Rock Pile

Rock Pile:  Evil Deceiver

Nietzsche’s famous “Evil Deceiver” story asks the reader:  if you had to live your life again and again and again as you have known it, would you celebrate or weep?  To help answer the question, the PAX faced a lot of pain at this station.  Each PAX had two smedium sized rocks.

  • 15 Rockees (Burpees with Rocks)
  • 20 Heels to Heaven with Rocks
  • Rapid Fire Rock Set:
    • 15 Curls
    • 15 Overhead Press
    • 15 Rows
    • 15 Swimmer
  • Three Amigos (like a wall sit but using your partners) and Pass the Rock Around 12 Times
  • Inch Worm to the Street (30-50 feet)
  • Broad Base Jump Back to the Rock Pile
  • 20 Smurf Jacks
    • Lunge Walk to Street
  • Mosey to Playground
    • 10 Pullups
    • 15 Calf Raises
    • 10 Pullups
  • Mosey to Side of the School with the United States Chalk Picture (a car, mistaking the school parking lot for an interstate highway, nearly crushed all 15 of the PAX in one fell swoop)
    • 20 Never Cross Dolly
    • 30 American Hammers
    • Mosey to the Track

Track:  Superman

Nietzsche says that humanity needs to move beyond “pity” and empathy/sympathy.  He says that we are limiting ourselves with compassion and religion.  The person who moves beyond these things and can answer the “Evil Deceiver” story with wanting to live his same life again and again is the “Superman.”

  • Corner 1 of the Track:
    • 10 Superman x3
    • Buddy Carry to Corner 2
  • Corner 2:
    • 20 Rosalita
    • Jailbreak/Sprint to Corner 3
  • Corner 3:
    • 30 Booyah! Merkins
    • Buddy Carry to Corner 4
  • Corner 4:
    • 30 Monkey Humpers (this never fails to be a real crowd pleaser)

Hill:  “God is Dead”

Nietzsche’s most famous lines:  “God is dead. God remains dead. And we have killed him. How shall we comfort ourselves, the murderers of all murderers?”  He attributes this advancement to science and the Enlightenment.

  • Crowd Pleaser (Merkin + Groiner)
    • 1 Merkin + 1 Groiner at the bottom of the hill and at the top
    • Run back down
    • 2 Merkins + 2 Groiners at the bottom of the hill and at the top
    • Run back down
    • 3 Merkins + 3 Groiners at the bottom of the hill and at the top
  • Mosey to the USA Chalk Picture
    • 60 Second Plank (actually turned out to be 80)
  • Indian Run to Start

A fair amount of MC today:

  • Balco (YHC thinks it was him) commented that YHC has too much time on his hands to be studying the lexicon and philosophy
  • Beverley really enjoyed those “15 Calf Raises” per side.
  • A car, mistaking the school parking lot for an interstate highway, nearly crushed all 15 of the PAX in one fell swoop. The driver stopped and apologized.
  • Zima is a machine. He did a Murph with a weight vest before the workout.  #lifegoals
  • Sleeper rolled his ankle something horrible with YHC on a run last week.  He completed the workout with no trouble today.  YHC wishes he healed as fast as Sleeper does.

COT

The PAX (and for good reason) were confused about the Nietzsche theme (Evil Deceiver, the need to move beyond compassion, and “God is Dead.”)

YHC reminded the PAX that this is Holy Week and that this Sunday is Easter.  Nietzsche can have no hold over us.  Some of PAX commented, “mind blown.”

Announcements:

  • Red Eye needs Outhouse Qs!

Prayer Requests

  • YHC has a friend with cystic fibrosis who could use some prayer
  • Pita has a friend dealing with a marital struggle

YHC took the PAX out in prayer with a message from Karl Barth:

“If you have heard the Easter message, you can no longer run around with a tragic face …[with] no hope. One thing still holds…that Jesus is the Victor.”

Thanks for the keys, Zima!  Always a pleasure to serve.
