Habitat for Humanity 3.10.18

QIC: Palin

Date: 3.10.18

PAX: Cherry Pie, Whirly, Drama Queen, Van Gogh, The Singing Cowboy, Rust Bucket, Sourmash, Spicoli, Ziggy Stardust, Boomerang, Touch me not, Lite Bright, LB’s daughter Anna, Palin

The group arrived on Spicoli time to the worksite after a refreshing workout and charming breakfast at Cagney’s. After a brief jobsite orientation and safety review, the PAX dispersed like busy worker bees. The house was donated to H4H by a bank in pretty bad shape. After the renovation it will be an energy-star house at an affordable price for a deserving family – kind of awesome. I do not recall all of the things we did, but here is what I remember:

  • Finished shingling roof; cut and installed roof cap
  • Removed old windows and installed new ones
  • Installed insulation sheeting on the outside and inside of house
  • Framed and patched old eve vents and windows
  • Braced carport, removed old structural columns, and prepared bean for new columns…carport still standing when we left
  • Framed in floor in new master bathroom

Random observations:

  • Sourmash is not as scary around powertools as he let on, he was sawing with the best of them by the end of the day
  • Whirly prefers to screw while Palin prefers to nail
  • Whirly likes to do as he is told, unless it is hard
  • LB is very demanding
  • LB likes farts
  • Drama Queen and Ziggy Stardust raised the floor
  • Cherry pie and touch me not had arts and crafts time cutting roof cap
  • At least two non-F3 guys at the worksite got EH’d
  • For a bunch of non-professionals, very little oversight was provided, and it turned out great
  • LB and Spicoli took the artistic approach to insulation sheeting design, very impressive
  • Ziggy Stardust stated that he was not aware the workout before H4H was optional
  • Lots of great work got done

Thank you to all who made it out or expressed interest/support. I know that everyone is busy and donating half of your Sat is asking a lot. I am honored to have a group of friends that are willing and able to rise to such an occasion. I especially enjoy construction based service as it gives me an opportunity to learn a new skill, teach someone else a new skill, and appreciate everything that went into my home. Based on the initial feedback there seems to be sufficient support for another habitat build day, maybe in a few months.

Thanks,
Palin

Great job Palin for organizing and pushing- I would not have been there if not for your standing in the F3 community, and just being an all around kick ass kind of guy.

For those who couldn’t make it, believe it or not, we had a lot of fun.

This is what F3 is all about! Had a great time with all the guys there, and look forward to doing it again. Thanks for coordinating @Palin!

PS – sorry for missing the Beatdown beforehand. I’m not sure if the sick kids or wine was more to blame….
