Steppin’ it up for the #SundayRuck

PAX: All PAX welcome

The #SundayRuck has been steady for several weeks now. It’s really simple:  fill a ruck (backpack, if you will) with 20-30 lbs (more if you so desire), and start rucking (basically walking but with a ruck on your back. And let’s face it, “rucking” sounds cooler than “walking”). The pace per mile has varied for all who have attended thus far, but the idea is to ruck with purpose, aka “giddy-up”, in an effort to get the heart rate up. But the various paces per mile has resulted in a split of the PAX – not everyone is together as one. This splitting isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but let’s be honest – misery loves company, right?

So this Sunday we’re going to step up our game. A GORUCK event (if you’ve ever done one, or have plans of doing so) has some requirements, and one of those requirements is that participants work together as a team throughout the event. Another requirement is that the participants take turns carrying extra items, aka Coupons, in addition to their rucks. All that being said, this Sunday everyone should be prepared to carry something extra. Everyone should also be prepared to stay together as a team, which means that those who tend to ruck at a quicker pace should be ready to knock it down a few notches, and those who tend to ruck at a slower pace should prepare to pick it up a bit. But the great equalizer(s) will be the coupons, and the added bonus of stopping to do a little PT (physical training) along the way.

Some of you reading this may be rolling your eyes and thinking, “Oh great. What was once a fun Sunday is now going to turn into a slaughter-fest, and I’m just not in the mood for this crap.” An understandable feeling, but let me assauge your fears/frustrations:  1) I fully understand we aren’t in the military, 2) We are not going to die from what I have planned, 3) A little extra weight and PT is only going to get you in better shape and make you feel that much better at 0815 when we finish, 3) We will all stay together and work as a team (reference the aforementioned misery loves company) 4) It’s a good way to implement some more training for that GORUCK event you plan on doing, or the #Ruckus that F3Greensboro has in March.

We’ll be meeting at the #VI parking lot (Jerry Long YMCA) and promptly launch at 0645 with a planned return NLT 0815. I’ll have the coupons. Just bring your rucks and smiles.

Nice use of the website for a Pre-Blast!!:-) Would like to join this, but have a downtime with work starting at 5AM til 1. If I get done quickly enough (depends on how much prep I do) I’ll come out!
