#BBBC discovers a new part of the Village!

QIC: Sassy

Date: 12/08/2017

PAX: Sour Mash, Harden, Spam-a-lot, Schneider, Fingers (WD), Wort (WB), Sassy (QIC)

YHC promised the PAX that showed up this morning that this new route that YHC discovered earlier this week would be a keeper.  New, smooth pavement…lots of street lights….very minimal traffic….rolling hills to keep the run challenging but not mountainous like some routes out of Hanes Park feel at times….many roads splitting every direction known to man so that you can tailor your distance anywhere from 2-4 miles and beyond per loop.  I would try to put a turn-by-turn of the route but I have no idea what any of the road names are.  I’ll do my best attempt to attach a screenshot of the route with my manual drawings from MMR since MMR hasn’t updated with the new roads yet.

I’ll do my best to describe the route….we met at VI (Jerry Long Y) and ran through some new roads that connect it to Publix.  The first option to lengthen the run was to run a lap around the Publix parking lot (.25-.3 miles).  Then the road continues behind Mossy’s before hanging a right onto a new road that goes all the way to Morgan Elementary.  The first roundabout is a good place to shorten the route, if necessary, or you can continue on to the Novant hospital/ER.  The road connects to Harper Road at another roundabout and you could either go back to the Y on Harper to Peace Haven or loop back around and run around the Novant parking lot (.4 miles?).  From there, it is the same route back to the Y with future options to either take a greenway through an apartment complex or run out to Harper at the same 1st roundabout.  The options really are endless with minimal to no traffic on any route you pick.

The PAX seemed very positive about this newly discovered route and I think it will be added to the rotation moving forward.  The lighting, smooth pavement, and lack of traffic make this route a keeper.

Great push by all the PAX this morning and it was really great to see Sour Mash back after it after rolling his ankle.

YHC announced a 0445 launch for 8 miles but had no takers, the first loop was a #sadclown loop.

YHC discovered Harden, Spam-a-lot, and Sour Mash and was a #sadclown no more.  We then discovered Wort on one of the street corners appearing lost…but he seemed to kick it into gear with us and then went through the Novant parking lot and was on his way.

Coming back towards home base, YHC heard a rustle and discovered a buck moseying and acting like he wanted to join in on the fun…Fingers soon appeared from the woods of the greenway and we both wondered whether our deer friend was going to join us for the run in.  The buck stopped there though and continued to mosey around the roundabout while Fingers dragged YHC up the last hills back home.  Thanks for the last push, Fingers!

Overall, it was a very successful morning, YHC broke another distance record at 8.03 miles and ran in a 10:23 pace.  The pace is staying flat with the increase in distance, which is promising.  YHC can’t be any more thankful to the PAX for their constant push and commitment to sharpening the iron YHC never thought could get so sharp.  Being 100% honest, there’s no way in my wildest dreams that I thought I could run 8 miles even 6 months ago.  The push is real, F3 works, and you should tell your buddies that they need this more than they can imagine.  My next goal is to tackle double digits before the new year!

YHC took us out, thanking Him for the ability to run and bringing the PAX together, as well as for the prayer requests mentioned this morning for the wildfires in California as well as Schneider’s M and 2.0 that are at cheer camp this weekend so safe travels and competition for them!

Aye! Thanks for leading #Sassy! Can’t believe I’m saying this, but it was good to be back “running”. Ankle is still not 100% but I can do more on it that I was expecting. Tclaps to Spam for hanging back with this 6, otherwise, I probably would have pushed it like I did. #ironsharpensironindeed
