“You were there?!?”

QIC: Burlap

Date: 05 Sept 2017

PAX: Wobegon, Palin (WB), Whirly, Mutton, Van Gogh, Spicoli, Burlap (WD)

OK, I am gonna list the exercises here, but I am stuck on a discovery about @Wobegon.

For BRR week, I decided that we would try not to run much but still get in a whipping at #Flatline, so I came up with a constant motion/transportation plan.  The Pax lined up single file facing the exit of the parking lot.  The pax did SSHs while the guy in back of the line (YHC) ran to the front and changed exercises.  Then Wobegon was in back and moved to the front etc.  We continued moving in an Indian Run pattern and only covered about one city block or maybe 1/3rd mile.  But we were always doing some exercises when not the one doing the transportation.  Here is the list of exercises with the mode of transportation beside it.  We made it through this list and repeated the first three before the 6:08 bell rang, when we returned for Mary.

SSHs — Run forward x2
IST — Lunge walk
Plankjacks — run backwards
OH claps — Inchworm
Merkins — Run w hands behind back.
Plank straight — Crab walk
Low dolly — Bear crawls
Mtn climbers — Carioca right
Freddie mercury — Carioca left
CDD — Bunny hop
Elbow plank — Bear crawl
Squats — Crawl bears
Jack reachers — Alligator crawl
Peter Parker — Duck walk
Jump squats — Apollo creed right
Parker Peter — Apollo creed left
Low flutter — Side squat right
Abe vigodas — Side squat left
Nolan Ryan’s right — Frog jump
Nolan Ryan’s. left — Run w hands on head

Mary — included one-legged Dolleys (each leg), Mutton Crunches (each leg), Protractor and Juanitas.

COT

  • Prayers for hurricane victims
  • Safety, good choices and good habits as students return to school
  • Safety for BRR runners.
  • YHC took us out.

NMM

  • Spicoli arrived at a little early, at 5:30:30
  • Good conversation through much of the workout
  • Group was forced to stay together, always within about 20 feet of everyone else
  • Interesting conversation about the merits of renaming a recent former FNG; not sure we came to a conclusion, but I appreciate the concern and willingness to discuss
  • YHC tried to mix up the exercises but there was a lot of upper body and shoulder stuff, including the bear crawls, crawl bears, crab walks, etc.
  • All pax worked really hard, and although we could talk some due to the lack of running, we all got a nice sweat and some of it really sucked
  • It was at the end of the list, just after 0600 that we were doing Nolan Ryans that Wobegon noted to me the appropriateness of the name of the exercise.  Then he casually let me know that he was at that game.  Yes, he saw Nolan pummel Ventura in person.  I remarked that he was probably a kid when that happened and without a beat, he said he was 10 years old.  Goes to show that you never know what kind of royalty we have among us.

Thanks for the Keys, Beverly.  Honor to lead this group!

Should have done the math in my head, I would have been into my teens after checking the date of the big beatdown. Older than I thought I was.

I love workouts that are equally simple and effective. This ranks as one of the best. It’s hard to do something simple and effective and keeps the group together while allowing everyone, regardless of their fitness level, to push themselves to their limit.

Very well done Burlap. That was deceptively brilliant.

I second Whirly’s praise: simple, effective, and could do it together.

Appreciate your leadership, Burlap. And enjoyed the comradery of our community!
