So, YHC is on a text chain with several guys from F3 Metro where we trade music tips, clips and stuff. A couple of weeks ago, one of the guys shared a reel from Owen Cutts, who sends out “Old Music Friday” clips and did one about Arthur Conley’s “Sweet Soul Music”…”straight in with the horns, no messin’…” and “you can’t just start with the mega horns, hornsey rise, you can’t just give me the horn ultimatum, serve me some steak with some pepper horn sauce, and the ask me if I like good music!” As soon as YHC saw the clip, the seeds were planted for his next Q, which just so happened to be this morning at The Rock Quarry. Knowing that the regulars were all fellas of certain age who were also all know to like good music, the playlist was curated from the sweet soul music that is spotlighted in Conley’s banger and then the beatdown was figured out using the initials of said spotlighted artists to suggest particular body movements to work ourselves to failure while listening to a stellar lineup of soul music superstars. As Cutts suggested in the clip, the song that inspired this workout is “like bumping down a hill in a go-kart that you and your pals made and you suddenly realize that you’re going too fast….” and there were times where this workout felt just like that.
Walk-Up Music
Theme (From “The Magnificent Seven”) [Elmer Bernstein]
Pax were a bit confused as they gathered around the VSF with this music blaring. But as Cutts mentioned in his clip, Arthur Conley’s “Sweet Soul Music” borrowed heavily from this theme so it seemed appropriate.

That one was fun…tunes were spectacular. Math and counting were a bit more challenging than expected.
Garmin says 2.8 Aerobic and 2.1 Anaerobic over 0.49mi. Not bad.
Tclaps to @BAM for joining YHC and for the push at TRQ Run Club. #RunningIsStillStupid
Tclaps to @Boomerang for helping out with transporting the speaker back and forth. #HelpingHand #InchwormAndBearCrawlRefusenik
Cobains for accidentally cutting off “Get Up Offa That Thing”. @LambChop was gonna complain but then thought otherwise when he realized that got us out of a bunch of jump squats and burpees.
Kotters to @SgtShultz…great to have him back in our midst as YHC had to promise no Rush covers of soul music to get him out.
Here’s the playlist (it’s a #CertifiedBanger):
Thanks for obliging my music geekery. #TheyDon’tMakeEmLikeTheyUsedTo

LOVED all of this! Spectacular tunes and great full body beatdown. I was too dumb to pick up on the exercises being the initials of the artists. Cool touch. Didn’t realize we missed Get Up Off of That Thang; maybe my favorite James Brown song! Thanks for leading! Fantastic job as always. 👏💙
