MayHIM 10/29/25 – “Never sacrifice a chance to burpee”

Weather: Gloomy. Cool. Slight air of regret and angst.

Warm-Up

Burns (in a moment of weakness) requested a warm-up. So YHC graciously obliged with 37.5 side-straddle hops IC. That’s right, 37.5 – YHC was really just waiting for Tonka and Ziggy to stroll up as they pulled up in separate cars (odd?). After that kind of exertion, the PAX were clearly ready for a full 30-minute EMOM beatdown.

The Thang – “No Rest for the Righteous (or the Rollbacked)”

3 rounds. 10 exercises. 1 minute each. No breaks. Just 30 minutes of continuous movement, grunting, and silent questioning of life choices.

The Pain Menu:

• Lateral Lunges

• Diamond Merkins

• Sumo Jump Squats

• Captain Thor

• Plank Jacks (RIP – 3rd round casualty)

• Lt. Dan Magic Legs

• Hand-Release Mike Tysons

• Mountain Climber Spider Combo

• Flutters

• Burpees (of course…)

At the 20-minute mark, morale was fading faster than Rubber Ducky’s smile. Frosty briefly tried to barter plank jacks for coffee. Subfloor’s form was impeccable—mostly because he stopped moving and assumed the floor position entirely. Tonka worked as hard as a plastic toy truck in a sand box.

By the third round, it was clear something had to go. Nobody wanted to skip the Burpees (because we’re men of principle, not sense), so Burns mercifully chose to drop the plank jacks. He never once asked to drop the burpees – YHC didn’t even think it crossed his mind. Somewhere, a CrossFit coach shed a single tear.

3rd F – The Men Who Came Before

After catching our collective breath and dignity, we spent 30 minutes reflecting on the men who came before us—fathers, coaches, mentors, even those we never met but whose lives still ripple through ours.

We talked about how their presence—or absence—shaped us, challenged us, and sometimes left us with unfinished work to carry forward. It was a reminder that every man leaves a legacy, intentional or not, and that we have the opportunity (and responsibility) to choose what kind of mark we’ll leave on the next generation.

Powerful stuff. Quiet moments. Iron sharpening iron.

Prayer Requests

🙏 Tweety Bird’s brother-in-law in the ICU; strength and peace for Tweety as he carries much of the family’s burden.

🙏 Burns’ mother-in-law recently diagnosed with leukemia.

🙏 Frostbite’s grandfather-in-law, who passed at 97; prayers for his family at today’s service.

🙏 For all affected by the ongoing government shutdown and the ripple effects reaching millions.

Announcements

🏃‍♂️ Pilot Creek Trail Run – Sunday. Coffee at 0700. Time change this weekend—don’t show up in the dark unless you’re looking for bonus mileage. See Burns for more info.

NMM

MayHIM continues to live up to its name—equal parts mayhem and meaning. We worked, we suffered, we laughed, and we reflected. The gloom was real, but so was the fellowship.

SYITG,
