Happy Birthday Dad!!!

QIC: Starfish

Date: 10/21/2025

PAX: Subfloor, Blind Date (WB), Ziffel, Ziggy Stardust (WD?), Superfly, Boomerang, Adobe, Frank and Beans, Starfish (QIC)

Today would have been my dad’s 88th birthday.  When @Adobe asked me several weeks ago to Q today, I jumped at the chance to honor my hero dad on his birthday.  At the time I didn’t know that @Superfly was also going to plan his dad’s 92nd birthday celebration at Parliament two weeks ago.  Fortunately, his dad was in the army and apparently loved burpees, whereas my dad was in the navy and detested burpees so we could celebrate in an entirely different way to day than we did two weeks ago.

No running.  No burpees.  Still got a bunch of work in and got all 3 Fs in, too.

Great group this morning.  Good to see @BlindDate coming back after a stint on the IR.  @Ziggy was a big fan of “Convoy”.  @Adobe liked the whole playlist, even the show tunes.  @Boomerang got extra credit by returning the heavy bag to my car after the workout.  @Ziffel suggested partner assisted prom dates but @Subfloor said that he was more of a pickle pounder.  @FrankAndBeans offered counseling given my obviously questionable and eclectic playlist choices.  Speaking of the playlist:

  • [He was born in Oklahoma City, OK]
  • “Oklahoma” (2019 Broadway Cast Recording)
  • “Boomer Sooner (The Pride of Oklahoma)
  • [He joined the navy fresh out of high school at age 17]
  • “In The Navy” (Village People)
  • [He loooved Jim Croce….soundtrack of my childhood on family road trips]
  • “Bad, Bad Leroy Brown” (Jim Croce)
  • “You Don’t Mess Around With Jim” (Jim Croce)
  • [He also loved Stevie Wonder]
  • “Superstition” (Stevie Wonder)
  • [He worked for Ryder Truck Rental from 1962-1986]
  • “Convoy” (C.W. McCall)
  • “Truckin'” (Grateful Dead)
  • [He/we moved to Miami in 1980]
  • “Rhythm Is Gonna Get You” (Miami Sound Machine)
  • “Margaritaville” (Jimmy Buffett)
  • [He moved back to his hometown as I came to Wake Forest in 1986 and lived there until he died in 2021]
  • “7&7” (Turnpike Troubadours)
  • “I Am Not Afraid” (Charley Crockett)

Thanks for letting me honor my dad this morning and for being there for me every day.

Your friend,

Starfish
