MayHIM
QIC: Rollback
Date: 8/27/25
PAX: Madoff, Frostbite, Boomerang, Spamalot, Van Gogh, Woodpecker, Crash, Zima, Tweetiebird, Wobegon, Rollback
The Arrival
PAX rolled in a full 15 minutes earlier than the Mayhem norm. YHC was already on site, alone, because no one likes to pre-burpee — because nothing says “welcome” like being sweaty before the workout even starts.
Then the surprises began. Woodpecker — whom YHC thought was allergic to bootcamps — wandered into the gloom (before all the rest). We’re still waiting on confirmation that he wasn’t kidnapped and dropped off against his will. It might have also been the first time Boomerang showed up at Mayhem, proving he actually knows there is more than just TRQ and Purgatory. And of course, the rest of the crew trickled in, some looking like they mistook “30/30” for “30 extra minutes of sleep.”
By the time we circled up, it was clear: something different was brewing. MayHIM had begun.
The Thang – Beatdown (1st F)
We opened with a recycled IPC-style grinder:
-
10-yard broad jump
-
10 burpees
-
10 merkins
-
10 WWIIs
-
10 squats
-
3 rounds (30 yards)
-
Bear crawl back to start
- Repeat, AMRAP
PAX pushed hard at their own pace and modified as needed. Shared suffering set the tone.
The Build Up – Fellowship/Discussion (3rd F)
We circled up over coffee to sharpen one another around this question:
“How do you respond or reset when your plans or goals fail?”
The conversation was honest and encouraging. Many shared experiences, wisdom, and words that pointed us toward resilience and forward movement.
The Format & Reminders
-
Move men to advantage. MayHIM is not a mope session or comfort circle. It’s about growth.
-
Confidentiality is essential. What’s shared in the group stays in the group. Each story belongs to the man who told it.
-
Knowledge is nothing without action. Each discussion should move us to ask:
-
What’s next?
-
How can I move forward and grow?
-
Who can I seek help from?
-
How can I help pick up another PAX?
-
NMM (Mumblechatter)
-
Van Gogh was an absolute beast, bounding across the field like he’d trained for this exact IPC his whole life. YHC may or may not have had trouble keeping pace with the Dutch master.
-
Zima complained loudly that some PAX were “going way too fast” — though somehow he was right behind the leaders the entire time. Classic sandbagging disguised as commentary.
-
Frostbite was mistaken for Huckleberry multiple times in the gloom. The confusion was never fully cleared up, and there’s a chance both men are still out there somewhere swapping identities.
-
Wobegon reportedly tried to barter one of his broad jumps for two squats, citing medieval exchange rates. Denied.
- Apparently, The workout wasn’t difficult enough for Madoff who decided to do hand release Merkins instead of regular Merkins.
- Wobegon also makes very good coffee.
Final Word
This was a strong start. The Beatdown. Build Up. format worked just as it was designed: sweat together, then strengthen one another. Excited to see how this grows and continues to forge HIMs out of Mayhem.
