NMM: A decent drizzle greeted us at the outset but tapered off after about 15 min. Good working out with Tweety Bird again, he’s been posting after a hiatus and is still crushing it. Rollback got his pre-burpees in like the stud that he is. Van Gogh was remorseful to miss ‘The Kirk’ this morning at Conspiracy, but enjoys the Hero WOD theme for the month at Mayhem. A wonderful sunrise started at appx. 0555 with the fog rising off the creek and the pink clouds from the overnight rain. Strong 2nd F the whole morning paired with maximum effort from all.
The Inspiration: My grandfather, Charles B Miller, was born into a poor farming family in BFE Mississippi. His middle name was simply the initial B, too – not short for anything. He was the 12th child and the previous 11 were daughters, so he grew up seeing the lot that had been given him and decided it wasn’t what he wanted. He ran away from home at 17 and joined the Army to fly cargo planes in WWII. Following that tour of duty, he went to college in Louisiana and then was commissioned as an officer into the fledgling U.S. Air Force and served in both Korea and Vietnam, thus garnering service in three different conflicts. [This beatdown was initially designed as a three-man grinder on the hill to somewhere, but with <6 PAX I opted to change the format.] After retiring he continued his career as a part-time ROTC instructor at Middle Tennessee State University and an accountant for the TN Department of Health in Murfreesboro, TN where he passed away at the age of 67 from a heart attack. I never got to meet him, sadly, but his legacy of service and commitment to protecting those around him persists and inspires me regularly. Check out his mean mug below.
Announcements: Tour de Draftee is coming up soon – secure your tickets today. YHC has WIB tomorrow at Reynolda Village and Rural Assault on Friday. MAY-hem continues next week with a Zima Q on VG’s bday. Samaritan Ministries is Monday, reach out to Greenspan if you can help. Happy Hour + 1/2 is on Thursday at Juggheads (be still my heart, this is my favorite bar in town)
Prayers for VG’s family, Rollback’s leadership, and my SIL. YHC took us out in awe of what the SkyQ is capable of and continues to do for us.
Thanks for the keys, Rollback!
