10 pax gathered for a celebration of the 9th birthday of Parliament.  YHC thought a westside, non running option would be good idea way back in the early days of F3 Winston-Salem.  Nantan at that time, Cobra encouraged me to get on the dance floor and see who else shows up.  Thus began the illustrious history of Parliament – conducted at SW Elementary the home of the Owls – and a group of owls is a … parliament.

After that brief history lesson we jumped right in with a Warmorama featuring a collection of standards, a few squats and a DQQ favorite – dry dock crabs.

Borrowing from my usual February birthday Q workout we also included some presidential birthday recognition.  For Washington we “crossed the Delaware” going toward the wall by marching toy soldier style for 10 steps each leg and then holding boat for a 10 count.  We proceeded this fashion until reaching the wall.  We then recognized 40th president Reagan by 40 elephant kicks as we tried to help “Mr Gorbachev knock down this wall”

Our singing upside down abilities were then tested with a short rendition of Happy Birthday while holding BTTW.  We followed this with The 4 Horsemen – Bear Crawls, Duck Walks, Gator Crawls, and Crab Walks across the paved area in front of the wall and back with 4 squats at the turns.

On to the hill in the back and Q determined it was not too slick for 9s.  Squats at the top and merkins at the bottom with bear crawls coming up and walking, rolling, bear crawling, crawl bearing, your choice going down.

From there to the blocks – curls, squats with block and wonderbras (a Parliament invention), and 31 dead lifts for the least known Feb presidential birthday – William Henry Harrison.  31 for the 31 days he served before dying.

Running out of time so back to launch for one last president – Abe Lincoln the only president in the wrestling hall of fame – of course you knew this was coming – Sumo Drill.

NMM

Great group  of Parliamentarians with some old and new faces.

MC was decent with old pros like Starfish and Sgt Schultz (good to see you back out) leading the way

Q fail on getting to 100 squats – my count was 87

Unlike Huck’s playlist from week before, YHC paid for the rights and original artists were played – it was an eclectic mix of tunes somewhat related to Parliament, working out, getting old, songs from 2015,etc.  It went something like this:

  • Give Up the Funk – Parliament
  • As Good As I Once Was – Toby Keith
  • I’m Not Running Anymore – John Mellencamp
  • Uptown Funk – Bruno Mars
  • Low – FloRida
  • Runnin With the Devil – Van Halen
  • Fat Bottomed Girls – Queen
  • The Walker – Fitz and the Tantrums
  • White Lightning – George Jones
  • Long Hot Summer Day – Turnpike Troubadours

Today’s group was a great example of you do you.  There was some modifying as necessary but also a few that powered up the hill eight times bear crawling every inch.

COT

YHC gave some praise for several Dash pax successful battles with prostate cancer in the past year.  This is a reminder for those of us that are in the age range where this can be an issue to get checked.  Note – this is not included in the free workout part of F3 – see your medical professional.

We lifted up the world, aging parents and any battling injury or illness.

Always and honor and Happy Birthday Parliament – here’s to many more.
