Calling the Dawgs at BnW

QIC: BAM

Date: 01/12/2022

PAX: Bluto, Lace, Balco, Cobra, Air Bag, The Singing Cowboy, Data, Atrophy, Manscape (WD), BAM

On a chilly morning, 12 other pax were kind enough to help Atrophy and YHC to celebrate the triumphant return to the top of the college football mountain!  As YHC shared, for some of us, the air is cleaner, the skies are bluer, the world is filled with joy, and nothing seems impossible since a bunch of 18-22 year old kids and some millionaire adults put an oddly shaped leather ball between some metal pipes or carried it into a large rectangle area that had been painted on some plastic stuff that was made to look like grass.  Again, clearly reason to celebrate!

Andy Griffith shares it better than I can why we celebrate: https://youtu.be/O_B_soGAAsM

For any good BnW, the music is truly the most important part.  And since college football and the college scene in the Classic City (nickname of Athens town), the Q had many options to choose from.  While Transcript might have disliked the first song on the playlist, he said a certain panic inducing tune redeemed the list for him.  All other pax were generally silent about the selections.

As the pax gathered up to the tunes blarin’, 0530 struck and we got started!

NMM

  • It was a generally quiet crowd, mostly because the Q forced everyone to be too busy counting to chat
  • The pax, or just Bluto, learned that The Who is another somewhat famous band that is from Athens
  • Cobra loves squat thrusters
  • Data stayed warm even without the fire he requested
  • Evidently Atrophy had some cold hand issues, but happy to report, all digits are intact and were back to working by lunch time
  • Interference was happy for his wife that her alma mater now has a won a national championship in football more recently than his (at least that was the vibe YHC picked up)
  • Transcript was sandbagging based on the pace he had for the final running lap
  • Per usual, Manscape brought his top tier MC game, dude just won’t stop talking!
  • The Q was initially surprised to learn that Lace finally has #respect, then remembered he fartsacked that Purgatory workout in December

Prayer

  • As I shared, I come from a long line of UGA grads and fans.  I saw my first game in 1980 with my dad, watching Herschel running over Vandy.  I met my wife while at UGA, and made some of the dearest friends I have (outside of y’all of course) during my time at UGA.  The dawgs winning was less about them winning but all the shared experiences and memories that are connected to them.  Especially with my dad’s passing last year.  So, YHC invited the pax to give thanks for the shared experiences that have connected to them to family and friends.  Those experiences are a gift.  F3 and the many experiences connected to it: camping trips with 2.0’s, volunteering, hearing Cobra’s first speech at a beatdown, and of course doing stupid stuff early in the morning.  Data said the kindest thing to me, “I only showed up because of you.”  Cherish the memories and people that you have shared experiences that make our lives so rich.

Song list:

  • Love ya son, Go Dawgs – Ray Fulcher (a new country song, but clearly bound to be a classic)
  • Baba O’Riley – The Who (a standard song played in Sanford Stadium at games)
  • Glory – The UGA Redcoat Band
  • Ramblin’ Man – The Allman Brothers (because YHC thought they were from Ga, but are from Florida)
  • Dooley’s Junkyard Dawgs – James Brown (who IS from Ga, and performed this song at a game)
  • GA Clay – Zac Brown Band (another Ga product and Ga is famous for its red clay)
  • No Easy Way Out – Robert Tepper (Rocky IV, where Rocky defeats the hated Russian, aka Bama)
  • Go Georgia Bulldogs – Redcoat Band
  • It’s the End of the World – R.E.M (because they are an Athens band, and if UGA wins the NC, the world must be ending)
  • We are the Champions – Queen (because, obvi)
  • Space Wrangler – Widespread Panic (Athens band, and this album came out while YHC was in school)
  • Let the Big Dawg Eat – Clisby Clark (a UGA grad and friend of my dad)
  • Spiney Norman – Allgood Music Company (Athens jam band from my time in school)
