Downtown Tour at Flatline

QIC: Burlap

Date: 26 Oct 2021

PAX: Knope, Voltage, Frostbite (WB), Drip, Bevo (beloved site Q), Honey Badger, BAM, LambChop, Air Bag, Burlap (WD & QIC)

Ten pax showed up under ideal conditions in the gloom for a non-stop, old school, Flatline beatdown and were not disappointed.  Here is how the workout went:

Run south on Cherry, west on 1st, north on Marshall back to start for some SSHs.   (All Exercises in cadence except for squat jumps, burpees, and at the Arts Park stop)

Halfway down 2nd St hill by deck, do mountain climbers.

In front of former world HQ for BB&T, do monkey humpers.

Over to Wells Fargo Center plaza for dips on curved benches, then step ups, then irkins then dirkins.

Up Main to Federal Plaza for plank salutes followed by hillbillies.

Over to Liberty between 3rd and 4th beside old county courthouse for squat jumps and heels to heaven.

North on Liberty to bus station planters for more dips, step ups, irkins and dirkins.

Up Trade to front of IMG for Nolan Ryans each arm and low flutters.

North on Trade and east on 6th and north on Liberty to Arts Park for more dips, step ups, irkins, and dirkins.

South on Liberty to front of old post office for Peter Parkers and side squats.

West on 5th to front of convention center for burpees (3 times 5 OYO) and squats.

West to 1st Baptist steps for dips, step ups, irkins, and dirkins.

Down Spruce to park across from 1st Pres for dips, step ups, irkins, and dirkins.

Return to lot for Mary:  Freddie Mercurys, Low Dolleys, and Dying Cockroaches.

FIN

COT — no announcements; prayers for LambChop’s M in pregnancy, for those trying to get pregnant and having difficulty, etc., and for Cheesesteak’s recovery from surgery.  YHC took us out.

NMM

  • The workout used the run around the block to warm-up and to give an extra 3-4 minutes to anyone running on Spicoli time.  Alas, no Spicoli.
  • YHC frequently walks the steep hill on 2nd St by the deck and felt it appropriate for mountain climbers.  However, YHC was generous and allowed the pax to face up hill.  Next time, we look downhill.
  • YHC made sure to do his monkey humpers with rear toward old BB&T building as an homage to a competing bank and sort of as a response to their moving all those offices to Charlotte.
  • Contrary to BAM’s allegations, we did not bow down to worship at the foot of the Wells Fargo Center tower.
  • The plank salutes were appropriate at the federal building, and maybe so were the hillbillies….
  • Cadence counting for heels to heaven was hushed due to the adjacent apartments.
  • The “planters” by the bus stop revealed the gradient of the street and allowed for ambitious step-ups by Bevo and others.
  • IMG/Learfield broadcasts sports, so YHC thought of Nolan Ryans.
  • Drip and others may not have visited the Arts Park before.  The features there made dips, etc. possible but not easy.   YHC pointed out the folks in the adjacent cross fit gym working out and paying for a less rigorous workout (maybe).
  • When the Q stated that we were as far north as we were go on this loop, LambChop asked aloud (maybe to himself) how people knew cardinal directions and who made them up in the first place.  A few pax offered answers like, “the compass” and “God”.  YHC remembers discussing cardinal directions with LambChop at an Urban Assault; I think he remains a ‘seeker’ when it comes to this part of faith.
  • YHC felt the results of side squats the day after this workout (today).  I need to do more and stretch some.
  • YHC called the Millenium Center the “old post office” in front of Air Bag and BAM, showing his age and inability to move out of W-S..
  • YHC had suffered from a broken watchband early in the workout, so my watch was in my pocket.  When we got to the convention center, YHC asked the time, and Bevo and others pointed out it was on the light display right beside me in huge numbers.
  • Honey Badger was not worn out at all by 0605 when we ran down to the park between Marshall and Spruce.
  • In the course of our easterly portion of the loop, Air Bag was able to point out and describe the Innovation Quarter to our ‘guests’, Knope and Voltage.  YHC thought he heard Voltage say he was from Florida, but apparently he said Charleston.  YHC was unduly influenced not only by old man hearing but by the medium Gator blue color of Voltage’s apparel.
  • Frostbite was asked where his delinquent father (Starfish) was, and Frostbite said that the Fish was at Parliament.  He then began to talk about how his Dad couldn’t handle the beatdown that Burlap was throwing down and went to the much easier Parliament.
  • BAM’s device estimates that we covered 1.72 miles.
  • The Q did not recite the mission nor the five core principles of F3, but we did them all in action if not word.

Honored to lead this group.

Peace,

Burlap

Solid! Sorry to have missed. Late arrival to bed precipitated no workout for me in the morning. You da man, Burlap
