IS 5/15/21

QIC: Greenspan

Date: May 16, 2021

PAX: Drip, Kissinger, Buy Out, Lamb Chop, Mugatu, Cherry Pie, Greenspan

Six pax, including an FNG, plus the Q gathered at Hanes Park for another rendition of Impossible Situation.  This week’s version had a little bit of something for everyone.

Warmarama:

SSHs, Abe Vigodas, Whirlies, Up/Down Dog + Calf Stretch, Quad Stretch, Merkins

The Thang:

First up was the “Hammer Time” routine set to MC Hammer’s “You Can’t Touch This”.

  • Every time Hammer says, “Can’t Touch This” = Burpee (25 in total)
  • “Break It Down” = American Hammers
  • “Stop, Hammer Time” = Back on your feet
  • Carioca for the remainder of the song.

Next was the 5k Accelerator.  Pax ran 200m then performed a leg-related called exercise.  Pax were instructed to take it easy on the first 200m and then accelerate a bit on each subsequent 200m.  Exercises were:

  • Glute Bridges
  • Backward Lunges
  • Side Bends
  • Fire Hydrants
  • Hungarian Lunges
  • Squats
  • Jane Fondas

We wrapped up this section with a 400m run, all you got.

We then moseyed up the hill to the bars.  Pax were instructed to partner up for 5 rounds.  Partner A does AMRAP pull-ups; partner B performs called ab-related exercise until relieved.  Ab exercises were:

  • Low Dolly
  • Cobra Crunch
  • Dying Cockroach
  • Alternating Toe Touches (WW1s)
  • American Hammers

Finally, for what YHC referred to as the “Cup Check”, we moseyed to the Intimidator and up to Jersey.  YHC instructed the pax to find some curb.  Pax were to perform Mike Tyson x 1, Bear Crawl to opposite curb, and Crawl Bear back.  Then, Mike Tysons x 2, Bear Crawl to opposite curb, and Crawl Bear back.  And so on until Mike Tysons x 5.

The End.

Announcements:

  • Q School was yesterday during IS. None of us attended.
  • Weekly Lunch Bunch and Hump Day Happy Hour appear to be back on. Look for announcements on Slack.

COT:

  • No clue.

NMM:

  • Our FNG’s hospital name is Josiah Williams. He hails from Asheboro, NC, home to the North Carolina Zoo.  He is a 4th year medical student at WFU.  He plays piano at 2 Cities Church.  He was out front on the 5K accelerator portion of the festivities which impressed YHC, knowing that staying fit for the 4 years of medical school is pretty tough.  He was not excited about the pull-ups but seemed just fine in the execution.  The pax settle on Mugatu from Zoolander.
  • YHC has no idea what actually happened during the final portion of the workout as I was called home. Drip mentioned that Cherry Pie did some really mean things to the pax.  One can only guess what that entailed.
  • Kissinger laid down a pretty good pace on the track as well. It was good to meet him for the first time.
  • Great to see Buy Out for the first time in a long time. YHC had a chance to run a couple of the 200s with him; only difference was he was running them backwards.
  • There are few things that Lamb Chop can’t do. One is a quad stretch.  He can, however, do pull ups until the cows come home.
  • Cherry Pie was kind of quiet, or YHC has figured out how to tune him out. In reality, Cherry Pie is a class A human being whom YHC loves to see, exercise with, and glean wisdom.
  • The same can be said for Drip, of course. Sorry YHC had to bail.  It’s always a great way to start a Saturday at Hanes Park.  YHC mistakenly brought the keys home.  I’ll get them back to you in exchange for my speaker.
