700 Club on Derby Day

QIC: Drama Queen

Date: 05/04/2019

PAX: Drip, Undertow, Burlap, Turnover, Deductible, Resistor, D Day, Spamalot, Benjamin Button, Splash, BAM, Parkay, Pinkman, Bevo, Offsides, Bulldog, Drama Queen

While it was both Star Wars Day and Kentucky Derby Day, YHC did not feel up to preparing a theme for an hour long workout.  The leftover paper bag instructions from my Flatline Q from a couple of weeks ago had been riding around in my car since.  It was likely there would be no pax that would have been at that impromptu substiQ and even if there were … hey it’s not like you’re paying for this anyway so what if you get a little bit of a repeat.

16 other pax joined me with a wide variety of ages, experience and general overall appearance.  A couple of pax had even grown facial hair since YHC had last seen them in daylight.

Enough chit chat it was time to get to work.  Warmorama began with some of the standards and moved on to a few that often come with a DQQ.  We did a few jab/crosses and then ended the session with Dry Dock Crabs.

To fill up the hour a few extras needed to be added so down to the Lido Deck.  There we did R and L leg step ups.  Splash allowed us to do dips in between.  We finished the round with a new experimental variation – declining Mike Tysons.  Some might argue MT has been declining for quite some time but today was a first for the exercise – basically a combo of MT and derkins.  Yeah about as awful as it sounds.  We didn’t do too many of these but we did repeat all at a slightly lower count for another round.

Then on to the main event.  The paper bag instructions had been carefully preset at the bottom of the hill.  7 rounds with 50 reps of exercise at the bottom of hill – run to the top of hill for 50 reps of another exercise.  100 per round  x 7 laps = 700. It took a little extra explaining for Resistor to understand the mission or maybe it was the math.

Rounds were as follows:

merkins/ squats

LBCs / seal claps

Carolina DD / Rt Leg Lunge

Low Dolly / Left Leg Lunge

Jack Reachers / Monkey Humpers

Plank Jacks / OH Claps

Cobra Humpers / SSHs

Thus at the end all pax had completed 700 exercises.  They were now new members of the 700 Club – let the Pat Robertson jokes begin.

But there’s time for more!

We moseyed up the hill and past the rocks to the track where we got in some Kentucky Derby practice by having a two lines of pax performing reverse pelaton.  When we arrived back at the finish we realized we needed some jockey training as well with some partner carry about 25 yards.

On our way back we had enough time for a little Sumo Drill in the parking lot and then back to start for Mary.  It was pax choice and well over 37+ hours later YHC can’t remember who called them or what was called but I know we did some finishing up with 30 seconds or so of planking.

NMM

Parkay was at the wheel of the Burlapmobile as they pulled in the parking lot.  All pax gave him a wide berth but the one in the passenger seat seemed to be fairly relaxed.

D Day arrived with his customary WIWO – why run when you live close

YHC’s text to entice Pinkman back out worked and he arrived in an appropriate drug dealer vehicle – a Volvo wagon.  Kotters and keep coming to get in the routine.

Good to see some long time pax out as well as a few YHC did not know as well like Deductible and Bevo

The 700 club might be a keeper of a workout – always good to keep pax together for encouragement and mc – the usual suspects were out front and lapped most of the field.  Notable respect pax among those were Drip and Offsides.  There was rumor of some pax appearing to have that face of near merlot spillage.

Glad we had BAM to keep us straight on 700 Club versus PTL.  Don’t confuse Pat Robertson and Jim Bakker.

Little did YHC know at that time that the Derby practice would be so important.  Believe we all stayed in our lanes and no one was disqualified.

It had been a while since a DQQ with a sumo drill – promise – you just think it happens every time.  Always a #crowdpleaser – at least I think so. However, this is the point where Bulldog Irish goodbyed us.
