PAX: Glazer, Peacemaker, Hedwig, Lemming, Chomper, Zuckerburg, Winklevoss, Manscape, Toetag, Palin, Little Piggy, Hitman, Mr. Hand, BALCO, Whirly

15 pax assembled at Hanes Park in the gloom this morning with one goal in mind- to prove that following directions between 5:30-6:15 AM is impossible, to wit:

WARMORAMA

One lap around the track.

Skip ~ 50 meters

High knees ~ 50 meters

Toy soldiers ~ 50 meters

Butt kickers ~ 50 meters

Mosey to the Intimidator

Run to the top of the Intimidator (YHC was thinking Glade, but said 4th), when the FIRST pax gets to the top, he turns around and the rest of the pax join him going down the Intimidator (most pax just kept going to 4th street).

Mosey to the track

Group divided into two groups: 1) pax who can run one mile in less than 7:00 (the fastholes) 2) the mortals.

The fastholes were instructed to run 1200 meters (3 laps) on the INSIDE two lanes; the mortals were instructed to run 800 meters (2 laps) on the OUTSIDE two lanes (hint: the OUTSIDE two lanes are the two lanes that are furthest away from the inside two lanes; most of the mortals just ran two laps in whatever lanes they wanted to).

After I finished my 800 meters, and Zuck and Winklevoss finished their 1200 meters, the three of us, plus the other pax that can’t hear, moseyed back to the Intimidator.

Winklevoss was instructed to turn around at Jersey Ave. and the pax were instructed to join him as he made his way back down the Intimidator (the pax just all ran to Jersey Ave. and stopped).

Mosey back to the track.  Zuck (and whoever wanted to join him) was instructed to go to the halfway point on the back straightaway and let out a Howard Deanesque yell to let us know when he was there; the remaining pax were to run one lap and stop at the cobblestone pavers that lead to the bridge (we ran a lap and the pax kept running past the cobblestone pavers to the beginning of the front straightaway).

Mosey back to the Intimidator.  Winklevoss was instructed to run to the 3rd street light and turn around, and the pax were instructed to turn around and join Winklevoss on his way down the Intimidator (the pax all ran to the 3rd street light and stopped).

Mosey back to track for part duh of making Zuck and Winklevoss try to catch the mortals while we ran ~ 400 meters and they ran ~ 500 meters (the pax just mostly did whatever they wanted until everyone was standing around with that “What are we going to do now?” look).  By this point, by osmosis or inertia, the pax should have started orienting back to the Intimidator.  It wasn’t an instruction per se, but damn…

Mosey back to the Intimidator.  Run to Carolina, then back (by this point I had given up on the theme of everyone running and trying to get back to the starting point at the same time).

By this point, by osmosis or inertia, the pax should have started orienting back to the track.  It wasn’t an instruction per se, but damn…screw that, let’s just stay on the Intimidator.

Run to the second street light (you say “Carolina again?”, I say “second street light” because it makes it seem like I’m mixing it up more) and back.

Run to the first street light and back.

Run backwards to the first street light.

Jailbreak back to the park.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

There weren’t “technically” any announcements, but it’s never inappropriate to start plugging Shmedfest and Swiss Miss’ birthday.

PRAYER REQUESTS

There weren’t “technically” any prayer requests, but it’s never inappropriate to wish we didn’t have to hear about Shmedfest and Swiss Miss’ birthday so early in the year.

NMM

Sourmash wasn’t at Redline, but after reading his tweet about pax not being able to follow instructions at Parliament, I decided to dedicate this BB to him.

I had fun being amazed by the pax’ inability to follow simple directions this morning, hope they had fun being amazed at my inability to come up with a more clear, concise plan that was easy to follow.  I was trying to roughly allow everyone to run as hard as they could and keep us all roughly together.  I think the only part I succeeded at was anything that could be described as “roughly.”

Mr. Hand, being the Renaissance man, General Contractor and Redline Q connoisseur he is, “pointed out” that the pavers between the track and bridge were bricks, not cobblestones.  After correcting my vocabulary he asked, “Whar you from boy?” to which I replied, “the state capitol- Rocky Mount” whereupon he divined why I called bricks cobblestones.  Actually, they’re called bricks in Rocky Mount, too, but it was early.

Later in the morning, at breakfast, BALCO exclaimed, “That was the most brilliantly devised and executed Redline Q I’ve seen since last Tuesday.” #encouragement #passiton

It was great to see Toetag and Hedwig at Redline again, and it was great to meet Little Piggy (that dude looks like he could be Palin’s brother). #Qthetwilightzonemusic

COT

YHC took us out with the generic COT gratitude stuff (but inside I was praying that the Lord would help all of these men recognize leadership brilliance when they see it). #nexttime

P.S.

Valdez is the new site Q; hit him up at @overwatch_58 on Twitter (or mention it to him when you see him at Redline) to volunteer to Q a future Redline.

One of my friends in law school used to taunt me by saying, “Instead of city on the rise, they should call it the city in demise.” It’s the only time in my life I didn’t argue with someone.

Passed through RM plenty of times on my travels to ECU in my early twenties. I always got a laugh at that nickname/slogan. I stole it for Clemmons/#WeFoCo – – “Village On The Rise”!
