It had been so long since YHC has attended #UrbanAssault that the AO had moved to Bailey Park since my last post here.  But that didn’t keep YHC from breaking out a beatdown that I had come up with months ago while walking around downtown on an errand.  I was probably paying taxes or voting when I realized that the area near the county offices had nice features that were amenable to a bootcamp.  I put notes into my phone and pulled them back out this week to form the following:

A Moveable Warm-o-rama (Hemingway would have been proud) — SSHs at Bailey, mosey to Chestnut and 4th for Peter Parkers, mosey to Chestnut and 3rd for merkins (spot of station 4) and mosey to intersection of Chestnut and 2nd for the THANG.

Four stations for four small groups at roughly four points of the compass:

Station 1 was east down the steps by the statue of W-S’ most famous brickmason to the benches for 10 dips, 10 step-ups with each leg, and 10 derkins,

Station 2 was south to the first building on the left for 30 monkey humpers, 30 mountain climbers, and 30 WWIIs.

Station 3 was southwest to the lined parking lot of the detention center for defensive back drills to the right, bear crawl 40-ish feet to the island, and defensive back drills to the left, up the stairs to the intersection of Church and 2nd and back.

Station 4 was north to the corner for 30 merkins and 30 squats.

When your group finished and came back to the center, do plank walk-ups with push-ups up the four steps until all groups return and Q says Recover and Rotate.

At 0605, mosey back to start for Mary which may have been LBCs, one-legged Dolleys, Mutton Crunches each side, Parker Peters, Juanitas, and Dying Cockroaches.

COT

  • Cheesesteak wants to replace “Juanita” as the name for the terrible ab exercise with something else.  If you have suggestions, put it to a vote, put it on Twitter, and/or use the new name the next time.
  • See Palin, Huckleberry or Van Gogh for OCR (Obstacle Course Racing) opportunities in October and November.  YHC is doing the Rugged Maniac on Oct 27 with a co-worker.
  • Ardmore RAH is Oct 12-13 weekend with proceeds going to Second Harvest Food Bank.
  • Sassy is heading toward coast with supplies and help.  See him or Cobra to help, either in donations (money and goods) or physical help or both.
  • Pray for coastal areas recovering from Florence.
  • Pray for Cheesesteak and his M, as she moves to Ontario to take a professorship there but Cheesesteak stays behind to work and work on getting a VISA.
  • YHC took us out.

NMM

  • Former FNG Rundown was WD but in great shape.  Was named Rundown as (only Cheesesteak and Rundown himself knew this) that is the name of a local Nicaraguan dish, and Rundown has faithfully done mission work in that country for years.  Also, when asked what he liked to do for fun, he said, “run”.  So it works on two levels. Welcome!
  • Former FNG Post Hole works for Seegars Fence Company (14 offices in 3 states) and is originally from Goldsboro.  We settled on Post Hole pretty quickly as it is quirky and only mildly offensive (IMO).  Welcome!
  • YHC has been working out with F3 for over4 years, but he is not sure he has ever posted at an AO with so many PAX at which none were in their 40s.  UA had mostly 30s, a couple of 20s, two 50s and a 60-something.  This is a strong group, and I enjoyed working out with you all.
  • There was a surprising amount of pedestrian traffic coming up those back steps before 0600.  Only moderate car traffic but the Pax had to be careful.  They were fully disclaimed at the start, thanks to the FNGs.
  • YHC remembers when Screech first posted and his naming (was at Hanes Park, I think) many months ago, and had seen his name in recent BBs, but hadn’t posted with him in a while.  I enjoyed being in your group, Screech.
  • Station 2 was normally the last group to arrive, which was generally attributed to the 30 WWIIs.
  • This was an strong, fit set of guys.  Evidence was their chatting and jogging merrily as YHC struggled running up the 4th St hill at the start.

YHC remains thankful for this group of guys and for letting me organize and lead these workouts from time to time.

Great AO, Cheesesteak!  I have had the keys bronzed and will send them to you via FedEx next week.

Peace,

Burlap
