PAX: All Are Invited!

F3 Brothers:

You’ve heard the mumblechatter, the announcements during C.O.T. and now finally you are getting the email on GAS Groups! This is our third time adding new groups and based on the number of new guys coming since we last did this two years ago my guess is we will get a number of new groups formed and also plug some guys in to some existing groups. So you may be asking – Hazer – what exactly is a GAS Group?

GAS stands for Guys who Give A Sh*t. These are a small group of typically 3-6 F3 brothers who choose to meet intentionally once a week outside of a workout to go through life together. The goal is to form real authentic friendships by meeting regularly, talking about real stuff and being there for each other – it’s really that simple.

When I joined a GAS-type group 12 years ago it truly changed my life. Having a small group of guys to meet with regularly who I knew cared about me allowed me to talk about things I wouldn’t have ordinarily talked about. Right before that I had listened to a talk that mentioned that most guys really don’t have even one true friend who they felt comfortable sharing their innermost stuff with. It also mentioned that most of our friends basically came through work or through the husbands of our wives friends (because our wives are inherently better at forming friendships and talking about meaningful stuff). This summed me up perfectly. Through that group 12 years ago and my F3 GAS Group starting 3 years ago I know I have a group of guys who’ve got my back. I also know I’ve got an outlet to talk about the good, the bad and the ugly that I may have going on in my life at any given time. These are true friends in every sense of the word.

F3 Winston-Salem is such a perfect place to form deeper friendships. We all have a common bond of getting out in the gloom and working our tails off. We also keep coming back not just for the workouts but because there’s something special about F3 and this group of men. The 2nd and 3rd F’s of Fellowship and Faith added to the Fitness gives F3 that “special sauce” that makes us different from other groups. GAS Groups are intended to really allow guys to go deeper in 2nd and 3rd F.

Here are some quotes from some existing GAS Group members:

“As a younger guy, the opportunity to learn from “Respects” and “Ayes” has been invaluable. My GAS Group meeting is always a highlight of my week.”

“The regular accountability and support of our group has strengthened all of us. #ISI”

“GAS Groups are a great way to learn more about others and share more about yourself.”

“We are learning how to be vulnerable and “be real”. As that happens we realize we all have our own sh*t going on and are facing ups and downs. We are just men trying to be the best we can be despite our shortcomings. I love these guys and miss them when I can’t make it.”

“Best 2nd and 3rd F opportunity out there. Guys looking for a little more out of F3 can find it by GASsing!”

So what’s the next step? All I need to know right now is whether or not you have any interest in potentially joining a GAS Group. Don’t worry about the logistics of day, time, etc. I will work on all that after I compile the roster of guys that are interested. Once that’s done I will find out what days and times work best for guys and form groups that hopefully fit in to your schedule. Don’t worry if you think “I can’t commit to a weekly meeting.” We all miss from time to time but typically there will be at least two or more able to come every week which makes the time meaningful.

I’m glad to answer any questions you may have so feel free to post a comment below or send me a message on Twitter or grab me after a workout (I’m the one in the back bent over with my hands on my knees unable to breathe). You can also email me directly at toddhchase@gmail.com

I hope that many of you will take this opportunity to join a GAS group and that you will find it as rewarding and life-changing as I have.

AYE!

Hazer

Burlap-approved, but not because of the price.
