A Gentle Workout with the Wall at Parliament 9/18/2018

The PAX:  Rust Bucket (QIC) (WD), Drama Queen, Rescue Annie (FNG formerly known as Mitch Faircloth), Babyback (F3 Wilmington), Special K (F3 Wilmington), Vegamite, Boomerang, Sour Mash, The Singing Cowboy, Schneider, Spamalot, Huckleberry, Touch-Me-Not.

In YHC’s pre-blast announcement, I promised to be gentle. I think I delivered on that promise. Read on and judge for yourself. It went something like this:

Warm a Rama:

The PAX were encouraged to warm up on their own before the start because we began with:

  • Slaughter Starter – 20 Burpees OYO
  • SSH
  • Whirly with a clap followed by stretches
  • Overhead clap

The Thang:

Railroad Tracks – The twisted sister of the Indian Run. PAX start in single file line. First PAX drops to low plank, second PAX jumps over first PAX and runs to next parking lot stripe and gets in low plank. Third PAX jumps over both PAX and runs to next parking lot stripe and gets in low plank. After all PAX have gone, the first PAX jumps over all the PAX and returns to low plank. This continued until we reached the end of the parking stripes. Now we’re at the far end of the parking lot and need to get back, so…

Guantanamo in a straight line – First PAX lies on his back on parking lot stripe with legs up at 45 degree angle. Next PAX pushes the first PAX’s feet down toward the ground and then runs to next parking stripe and assumes the same position on his back with legs up at 45 degree angle. After all PAX have gone, the first PAX jumps up and continues the process. This continued until we returned to our original starting point. Next, a short mosey to where the cones were set up in the parking lot for…

Suicides – The Q called for Suicide runs but was quickly reminded by Drama Queen that this was a non-running AO. Cobains to all. So YHC called Omaha and substituted Bear Crawls/Crawl Bears and Lunge Walks for the running portion of this exercise and everyone was happy The Mumble Chatter was a testimonial to this happiness. And now a slow mosey, being careful not to run, to the wall for some more fun that included the following:

Wall Sits with Jack Reachers – We had several rounds of this exercise interspersed with the other wall-type exercises. The Q graciously allowed the PAX ample time between sets to shake out their legs.

Mike Tysons – Bear Crawl to the curb and Crawl Bear back to the wall and perform 5 Mike Tysons. Repeat but increasing number of Mike Tysons to 10 and then 15 for subsequent sets.

Balls to the Wall – Standing upside down on your hands with your feet above your head facing any type of structure that will support your body. As close to the wall as you can as the name implies.

WWII Sit Ups – X 25 OYO to give the shoulders and legs a break.

Out & Backs – With feet against the wall, Bear Crawl to the curb and Crawl Bear back. Continue crawling backward up the wall until in a BTTW position and perform 1 Australian Merkin – Repeat X 5

WWII Sit Ups – X 15 OYO to give the shoulders and legs a break.

Various Plank Exercises – Hold low plank, Left arm up, Right arm up, etc.

Mosey back to starting point for Mary.

Mary:

Several Mary type exercises called by the PAX. I think they were:

  • Protractor
  • Freddy Mercuries
  • Low Flutter
  • We finished with just enough time to complete a single Burpee for good measure.

Announcements/NMM:

  • The Railroad Tracks and Guantanimo exercises were real crowd favorites based on the Mumble Chatter I heard. But YHC is pretty old and my hearing is not what it used to be.
  • Strong work by Baby Back and Special K from F3 Wilmington. A pleasure having you guys with us.
  • T-Claps to Sour Mash, The Singing Cowboy, Schneider, and Spamalot for doubling down by running beforehand and then completing the “gentle” workout.
  • Katniss completed the pre-run also but was not able to stay for the workout.
  • Huckleberry and Touch-Me-Not completed their Bourbon Chase training run in time to join us for the COT and the naming of former FNG “Rescue Annie”
  • Welcome Mitch Faircloth who joined us as an FNG this morning. He is a paramedic in the area, has 2 kids and no hobbies other than work (so he says). He was nearly named Mouth-To-Mouth but after further consideration, we went with “Rescue Annie” after the CPR dummy used for training purposes.
  • Haven’t worked out with Boomerang in a while. Was glad to have him there as he always brings positive energy and a great work ethic.
  • Vegamite was at The Distillery last Thursday when YHC had the Q there. He was strong then and didn’t disappoint again today at Parliament. Keep it up, brother, looking good!
  • It was great working out next to Drama Queen at the wall this morning. His Mumble Chatter kept me going. The guy might have a real future in theatre or maybe as an MC for Shmedfest!
  • Sassy, I think (someone correct me if I’m wrong), is making a trip down to the coast to take supplies to those in need. Watch Twitter or contact him to see how you can help.

COT:

  • Prayers for Boomerang’s sister who will receive results of a biopsy today. Also prayers for those suffering with addiction and those on the coast who are dealing with the hurricane aftermath. Prayers for safe travels as Babyback and Special K will soon be returning home to the coast.

An honor to lead such a fine group of men. Thanks for the keys, Schultz

That was one of the harder Parliament beatdowns in my memory – but YHC would expect nothing less from Rust Bucket. Cobains to the group for the non running call – running would have been better than bear crawls and crawl bears. Thanks for the Omaha.

Great group. Glad to have our Wilmington guests and good call on the naming of Rescue Annie
