CO-Qs:   Ziggy Stardust and SGT Schultz

DATE:   May 12, 2018

THE PAX:   Boo Boo, Cheerio, Cherry Pie, Five Dollar Footlong (First post to F3WS), Mickey + Rocko (#Kotters), Mutton, Muzzle (FNG & WB), Palin, Plunger, Proehl (#Kotters), Roosevelt, Root Canal (WD), SGT Schultz, Starfish, and Ziggy Stardust

15 PAX plus a four-legged friend assembled at the parking lot of Wiley Middle School to experience the Impossible Situation, and more importantly, to support Ziggy Stardust’s VQ.

Ziggy Stardust’s theme was Team America (an unforgettable and irreverent 2004 movie by Matt Stone and Trey Parker using marionettes throughout) while also celebrating some of the achievements by America throughout the years in support of freedom and liberty.

WARMARAMA – Led by Ziggy Startdust

  • SSHs
  • Hillbillies
  • Arm Swirly Things (forward and reverse)
  • Whirlies with a Clap
  • Abe Vigodas
  • Peter Parkers

At the conclusion of WARMARAMA, mosey to the bottom of Education Hill for Station #1, celebrating the  uncommon valor of  Americans that was a common virtue at Omaha Beach and the Normandy Hedgerows, ultimately resulting in the liberation of France.

STATION # 1: DORAs with 2-man teams

  • 100 Merkins
  • 200 Monkey Humpers
  • 300 Flutter Kicks

While Team Member # 1 performed  AMRAP of the given exercise, Team Member # 2 locomoted backwards to the top of Education Hill (a quad-killer and crowd pleaser) and then ran back down to relieve his partner.   Flapjack until all reps of each exercises were completed.  Ouch!

At the conclusion of Station # 1, SGT Schultz took the reins for Station # 2.   The PAX moseyed to the far end of the track where pre-filled sandbags were lying in wait.

STATION # 2: 3 Man Grinders .  Station #2 celebrated the Berlin Airlift, which lasted for 11 months in 1948-1949 and ended 69 years ago on May 12, 1949.   Through the resolve of the United States and our British and French Allies and the dream of the people of West Berlin to remain free, efforts by the Soviets to choke off a bastion of liberty were foiled.   In commemoration of the Berlin Airlift, the PAX lifted bags of sand, a reasonable facsimile of the thousands of bags of flour flown into Tempelhof Airport in Berlin by brave pilots on C-54s and C-47s.

It went something like this:

The PAX divide up into 3 man teams:  1 PAX moved to the south end of the track carrying a sandbag in each hand, while the other 2 PAX remained at the north end of the track with a pair of sandbags.   When the signal to start was given,  1 North end PAX ran (without sandbags) counterclockwise ½ of a lap to the south end.  While he was running, both the South end PAX and the other North end PAX performed the first round of the sandbag resistant exercises listed below at their respective locations.  When the running PAX reached the South end PAX, he relieved his teammate and began performing the first round of listed sandbag exercises.  Meanwhile, the relieved South end PAX ran counterclockwise to the north end to relieve his teammate, who had been lifting sandbags in the prescribed manner the whole time, and so on and so on.

North end of track

  •    Curls with sandbags
  •    Side-Arm Raises with sandbags
  •    Skull-Crushers with sandbags
  •    Upright Rows with sandbags
  •    Cabbage Patch with sandbags

South end of track

  •    Left leg step-ups with sandbags
  •    Right leg step-ups with sandbags
  •    Squats with sandbags
  •    Alternating Forward Lunges with sandbags
  •    Dead lifts with Sandbags

At 0740, the PAX emptied the sand from their sandbags back into the long jump sandpit and then moseyed to the pull-up bars located in the back of the gynmnasium building to begin Station 3, led by Ziggy Stardust.

STATION # 3: Pull-ups & Wall-Sits:  The PAX paired off into teams of 2 for 3 rounds of pull-ups and wall sits.   Team Member # 1 performed sets of 5 pull-ups + 5 hanging ab crunches, while Team Member #2  did wall-sits until it was his turn. FLAPJACK for 3 rounds.

At 0751, the PAX moseyed to the parking lot, which was performed in democratic fashion in celebration of the “Grand Experiment” that is the United States.

MARY:  Various abdominal punishments meted out by Root Canal (who suckered SGT Schultz into calling on him), Cherry Pie, Roosevelt, Five Dollar Footlong and Palin.   A painful end to a challenging workout.

  3. Ziggy Stardust took us out, giving thanks for F3 and his F3 brothers.   Ziggy Stardust recalled with both love and sorrow that his beloved father, whom he lost unexpectedly two years ago, would have celebrated his birthday today.  Ziggy Stardust asked our Lord to help us to remember to always turn to Him for help and guidance to be better men, brothers, husbands, sons and friends and to honor His love for us by sharing it with  others.
  4. Personal Comments (verbatime) shared by Ziggy Stardust:
    • I forgot to add to my VQ disclaimer: not only am I not a professional, but I (pretend to be) a professor. It takes us two to three times longer to figure out most things!
    • A little bittersweet but also beautiful and perfect day to help celebrate my father’s birthday – he left us very suddenly in May 2016 – a reminder of the great responsibility and the great joy of being the best fathers and the best sons we can be to each other over this lifetime together
    • Thanks to Sgt Schultz  for easing me gently into this pretty challenging role of the Q. I now know why he’s a Colonel for Team America!
    • And thanks to Palin for letting us borrow the keys, overhead in the MC what a great model he is for the results we can get if we keep pushing. Truly demonstrates F3 in action.
    • An honor to finally get to help lead such a fine group of men after six amazing, transformative months, appreciate all the support of the F3 brotherhood
