Ethereum at Super Max

Ethereum at Super Max

QIC: Crash

1st VQ of the day, YHC arrived and explained the story of Ethereum. No interest in cryptocurrency, but was eyeing pieces and parts of 2x4s in the garage and debating whether to hold on to them to trade for a mansion in malibu or pay for kids’ college or something, or turn them into something to assist with workouts now and in the future. A quick check of the internet demonstrated the price of timber is currently at an all time high and was also quite volatile and it was time to cash in. For some reason, ethereum came to mind. The curves look remarkably similar as you can see. Thus, a bag of ethereum was procured for Super Max. YHC would like to believe that my efforts paid off in a great turnout for the workout but I suspect Van Gogh and text messaging might have assisted as well. Someone might have mentioned they heard from my ‘agent’ ahead of the workout. In any case I’m really grateful to VG and all those who came out today.

Ethereum’s unpredictability and inherent ‘does it exist, or not?’ nature means one can only know so much about it. But there were 20 blocks of Ethereum, with 4 exercises (Burpees, WW2/LBC, Merkins, Jane Fondas) on one side and numbers of reps on the other. I define the Jane Fonda as a side hip dip in the prone plank position. I admit not thinking about exactly how to count a Jane Fonda for the workout. Or having really decided what form the exercise would take. I tried to consult the internet but the internet will tell you a Jane Fonda is about 50 different moves. Live and learn…

F3 Mission and Core Principles were recited decently well by YHC, my first time doing that. No disclaimers since there were no FNGs, but there was a disclaimer that my IQ drops about 30 points when I’ve got anxiety about doing something new like this. Though I had said it tons of times in my head flawlessly, and noticed an approving ‘Someone has done their homework’ as I started from Zima, I still managed to say something to the effect of how the Circle of Trust is the 1st exercise or the CoT is how we start the workout rather than the 5th core principle.  I got back on track and said that the 6th core principle is, in keeping with the theme of unpredictability, that we do…

Warm-o-Rama

  • 10 burpees
  • 30 side straddle hops
  • Arm swirly things forward and backward (9 forward, 11 backward – Dr. Toot wasn’t pleased with this, it wasn’t intentional)
  • Mosey to first station

The Thang

  • There was music. Theme of chance – card game type stuff.
  • 3 stations. Run from station to station doing 1 exercise per station.
  • 7 Ethereum at 2 stations, 6 at the third. Numbers face up to start. Numbers run from 5-50 with different exercises having different ranges.
  • Burpees, WW2/LBC, Merkins, Jane Fondas
  • PAX take turns choosing ethereum, flip it over, we do the exercise and reps together. Ethereum stays face up afterward. Run to next station.
  • I wanted to keep the group together so said 2 PAX completing would mean we move on, but in general we kept pretty well together anyway.
  • At any time, and only one time during the workout, each PAX could say ‘Ethereum is a hustle’ and drop the value of ethereum, halving the number of reps.
  • Or, at any time, and only one time during the workout, each PAX could say ‘Diamond Hands’ and increase the value of ethereum, doubling the number of reps.
  • I tried to say you have to do this before the block is turned up and you know what the exercise is, but that was dumb and I hadn’t thought about it. In practice its best to make that decision after you know the exercise.

Mary

There wasn’t one. It was clear we were going to flip over every piece of ethereum as we approached time and it was bizarrely coincidental that we turned over all 20 blocks, the next stage was going to be choosing workouts and getting random reps. We got the last one done and stopped where we were.

Finish

CoT

  • Prayers and praise for VG daughter’s healing foot!
  • YHC took us out in prayer, prayers for wisdom amongst change.

NMM

  • We did at least 150 merkins, 150 ww2/lbc’s, 80 burpees, and 150 jane fondas. And ran just under 2 miles. The PAX were bullish with many more diamond hands than hustle calls so I’d say we likely finished out closer to 180, 180, 100, and 180.
  • Everyone tended to choose the highest available number at station. Given what I know about this group it was not surprising.
  • On Thursday, YHC attended a Fender workout at Distillery wherein Rudyard Kipling’s ‘If’ was recited. Today, in the music playlist I added a version recited by Jocko Willink and set to music DJ-style. It sounds strange but it’s awesome and I didn’t hear too many complaints. Fender seemed to enjoy it and PAX showed respect for Willink. Fender was also happy we started with burpees and disappointed when every burpee workout wasn’t given Diamond Hands designation.
  • Dr. Toot kept us honest on reps and had a preference for even numbers and particularly the number 11. Sorry for throwing off with the AST numbers, it wasn’t intentional.
  • Spicoli and The Deuce weren’t about to short reps and knocked them out.
  • Zima gave me less grief than I deserved and he and Van Gogh were beasts as always.
  • Code Red, Suede, Workbench, working hard as always and had short runs with each. It’s a little weird being out front more of the time as Q.
  • Drip is always there to pat me and others on the back and encourage.
  • Code Red’s first SuperMax, or at least double down, today, thank you!
  • Shout out to all the PAX who showed up and I’ll just say that I was pretty focused on not screwing up.
