“Seventeen has turned thirty-five. I’m surprised that we’re still livin’.”

The great John Mellencamp said it well. Time is indeed precious, and it is amazing how fast it goes. One minute you are a teenager, the next…something entirely different. As poets, philosophers, and scribes have more eloquently put it, life is precious and to be savored.

Newly minted as a 50-year old, YHC was ready to lead the Pax this morning at Mayhem. 10 other Pax assembled in the complete and total darkness. Fortunately, at approximately 5:29, the parking lights came on!

Mission Statement for F3 recited.

Warm-o-Rama

There are five core principles that govern all F3 workouts. The order in which they are stated is important, so the Pax were quizzed.

Unfortunately, right out the box – the first wrong answer was given. So…5 burpees OYO

Second principle – correct – SSH x 10 IC

Third principle – wrong – 5 burpees, OYO

Fourth principle – correct – seal claps x 10 IC

Fifth principle – correct – Whirlies x 10 IC

For those keeping score at home, the five principles (in correct order) are:

  • Free of charge
  • Open to all men
  • Held outdoors, rain or shine, heat or cold
  • Led by men who participate in the workout, in a rotating fashion
  • End with a Circle of Trust

The THANG

Mosey to rock pile. Find a medium rock that will have limited running, but high number of reps.

Mosey to front of elementary school for further instructions.

Pax was instructed that they would be listening to 12 different songs. Each song was no longer than 3 minutes. Once the first song began, they would perform 25 reps of the called exercise. After reps done, put down rock and run around the traffic circle in front of the elementary school. If the same song was still playing, perform 25 reps of the same exercise, then put down rock and run another lap around traffic circle.

At each song transition, the exercise would also change. Continue this pattern until all 12 songs and the corresponding 12 exercises were complete.

The songs, and exercises (all with rock, all single count) were:

Ramblin’ Gamblin’ Man – Bob Seger – CURLS

Can’t Hardly Wait – The Replacements – OVERHEAD PRESS

Everday People – Sly & The Family Stone – BENT OVER ROWS

The Seeker – The Who – LBCs

Signed, Sealed, Delivered – Stevie Wonder – SKULL CRUSHERS

Freedom at 21 – Jack White – CHEST PRESS

Nothing – Uncle Tupelo – FRONT ARM RAISES (Drip, these were not another set of curls…)

I Can’t Stand Up for Falling Down – Elvis Costello & The Attractions – SQUATS

Waiting Room – Fugazi – AMERICAN HAMMER

Slack Motherfucker – Superchunk – HALO

Outtasite (Outa Mind) – Wilco – CALF RAISES

Laid – James – BUS DRIVERS

Return rocks to rock pile and return to parking lot. No time for Mary.

TIME!

NMM

Thank you all for posting this morning and starting the day right!

In terms of number of sets of each exercise, all Pax got through at least 2 sets of each exercise, with many finishing 3 sets for each song. Thus, the total number of reps ranged from 600 to 900.

Total distance run was 2.32 to probably near 2.5 miles.

Strong work by all!

Many of the Pax had their music appreciation expanded by today’s song choices.

Posthole correctly identified “Laid” by James. Solid. Whatever happened to them?

Stevie Wonder was appreciated by Offsides. #respect

Dr. Toot told YHC a great story about his daughter meeting Elvis Costello. #cantmakethisstuffup

This workout was Litterbox approved!

Each Pax in attendance was given a single serving package of Spam as a memento. If Twitter is to be believed, Dr. Toot already consumed his. #eggsricespam #ketchup

YHC will already say…the view is pretty nice on this side of 50. Highly recommended!
