Sub-2hr pace at Redline

October 12th was a historic day in running. In Vienna, Eliud Kipchoge ran a marathon in 1:59:40. It was the first time any human has ran that distance in under 2 hours. It was not a race (and therefore some argue it is not the actual world record), but it was an event organized by a team to see if he could do it. He had a team of pacers and a green laser to track his pace for the record time. IMHO, a remarkable feat regardless of the record books.
Also, in Chicago, Brigid Kosgei won the women’s marathon with a time of 2:14:04. Also setting a world record for women’s marathon (no asterisk!).
Inspired by these remarkable events, YHC set out to see if the F3WS PAX could qualify as support team members for the next “sub-2” event. Here’s how it went:

Lap around Hanes Park.. Follow the green laser (because that keeps us on pace!).. finish at playground and enter the track to much awaited fanfare (in our minds!)
THE THANG
2:00 mins on and 1:00 min off
ON is ~5k pace, OFF is mosey (not walking)
REPEATO for 8 iterations, whistle signifies change
Bring Sally Up – Merkins version (2:00 ONLY)
Mosey back to parking lot for COT

Un..fortunately the PAX did not keep up with the required 4:30 min/mi pace needed for pacers to keep the record holder on track so we will not be invited to the next “sub-2” event. Bummer. However, I do feel confident in that we could hoist the fast man more than 18-inches off of the ground when he crosses the tape. Which is more than his current support team can do. #RunnersArms #WeAllHaveOurStrengths

Greensboro 5-yr F3 Anniversary is happening this weekend (Oct 19). 90-min beatdown starting at 0630 at Grace United Methodist Church. Our own 5DollarFootlong is leading part of the beatdown and coordinating clowncars.
