Fools in the Rain

QIC: SGT Schultz

Date: March 1, 2018

PAX: Bevo, Boomerang, Cheesesteak, Chisel, Dr. Seuss (WB), Jar Jar, Post Hole, Root Canal (WD), Snooki, The Singing Cowboy, TSA, SGT Schultz

YHC held the reins at Urban Assault on a rainy, but not particularly cold, Friday morning at Bailey Park.   A total of 12 PAX posted for some fun.

WARMARAMA:  A typical assortment of warmup exercises, including SSHs, Hillbillies, Seal Claps, Overhead Claps, Whirly’s with a social disease, and Abe Vigodas — all conducted at the Bailey Park Fountain.  After conducting warmup exercises and some hamstring stretches, we took a warmup lap around Bailey Park.

After returning to the Fountain, there were numerous pleas from the assembled PAX for us to go to the Parking Deck to stay dry.   This was the Q’s response:

THE THANG:   The PAX paired off into two-man buddy teams, with each team being issued a kettlebell or a dumbbell weighing 25 or 30 pounds from the trunk of my car.   We then proceeded into the Biergarten (that’s beer garden for you folks who don’t speak German) outside Incendiary Brewery.    The THANG went as follows:  While Partner # 1 performed the listed exercise, Partner # 2 ran to the other side of the Biergarten (approximately 65-70 yards), stopped, dropped and performed 5 Burpees before returning to Partner # 1.   Flapjack.

The listed exercises were as follows:

  • Merkins
  • Dips
  • Goblet Squats (with kettlebell)
  • Curls (with kettlebell)
  • Skull Crushers (with kettlebell)
  • Monkey Humpers
  • Alternative Lunges
  • Front Raises (with kettlebell)
  • Derkins
  • Kettlebell Swings (you guessed it, with kettlebell!)
  • Upright Rows (with kettlebell)
  • Squat Halos (with kettlebell)

All told, each PAX did 60 Burpees.

Part Deux:  The PAX then moseyed to the railroad trestle immediately adjacent to the Biergarten and did pull-ups from the I-beams of the railroad trestle for two sets, each to muscle failure.

MARY:  Although the rain had diminished by this time, YHC was sensitive about having the PAX lying on the wet ground for Mary, so we went to the Parking Deck (next to the railroad trestle) where it was dry.   YHC called on various PAX to call out ab exercises, resulting in us doing sets of Heels to Heaven, Low Flutters, Planks, and Sit-Ups Schultzy Style.

FINIS!!

NMM/COT:

  • Not a whole lot of mumble chatter due to the rain and constant movement
  • YHC had not been out to Urban Assault in a couple of months (I usually run with the #BBBC guys in Clemmons on Fridays).  I had forgotten what a fantastic AO it is.   I scouted the Bier Garten earlier this week (my office is three blocks away) and thought it would be a fantastic area for what I had planned for this morning.   It was indeed!
  • Praises for The Singing Cowboy’s father, who is returning home after some medical issues with a good prognosis and a positive outlook
  • Prayers for YHC’s mother in law, who lost her husband of 50 years last week; is suffering terribly while waiting for hip replacement surgery; and moved into a retirement community yesterday (so much to deal with at one time) and also for my M, who has had to deal with all of this stress, providing constant care and attention for her parents
  • Prayers for Boomerang’s Mom, who is moving into a retirement community in a few weeks.  (As it turns out, the same one as my mother-in-law.  Hopefully they can become friends!)
  • Boomerang took us out, with a heartfelt prayer of intercession and praise.

I really enjoyed the Q this morning.  Thanks for the keys, Cheesesteak!  I’ve dried them off and am returning them to you.
