Sucking in the Seventies (and ’80)

QIC: Starfish

Date: 1/21/2026

PAX: Woodpecker (WB), Closer, Headhunter, Bluto, BAM, The Singing Cowboy, Burlap (WD), Starfish (QIC)

Back on October 29, 2025, we gathered at the Greenbrier Farm Clubhouse parking lot to celebrate the Rolling Stones discography of the 1960s.  Realizing that Mick and the boys had a whole lot more tunes in the 1970s and beyond, YHC decided to recycle/refresh the workout, update the playlist to cover the Stones from the 1970s (and the year 1980), replace the part of the workout dedicated to Brian Jones (RIP) with one dedicated to Ronnie Wood, and then to just wait on some friends to show up.  Fortunately, seven other pax did show up at least for the beginning of the workout and here’s roughly what we accomplished:

Being privy to @Burlap’s Spotify Year End Wrap Up, where his listening age was calculated as 82 (#RespectRespectRespectRespect), @Bluto rightly noted that the playlist today was a little to recent for @Burlap’s taste, even though the newest tune on it is 46 years old.  Speaking of @Burlap, he noted that he was in 8th grade when “Miss You” came out.  (#WarDaddy)  Speaking of #WarDaddy, we are a bit concerned that @Burlap may have staged some sort of Wells Fargo Retiree Coup and did something suspicious to @Manscape, who is our regular BnW #WarDaddy.  #TAP

Also speaking of @Burlap, get him to tell you the story of his courtship of his lovely M.  Had something to do with getting her to listen to “Emotional Rescue” every night and think of him.  #YouCouldBeMineYouCouldBeMineYouCouldBeMineAllMine

@Closer did not take YHC’s advice and cut Wake Forest basketball out of his life.  #LiveAndLearn #OneDayAtATime.  BUT, even after last night’s heartbreaking (#DooDooDooDooDoo) bender, @Closer still posted this morning.  At least for a large portion of the workout.  (#FIFO)

Speaking of #FIFO, @BAM stormed off again during the workout and before the burpees.  #(Can’tGetNo)Satisfaction.

Speaking of @BAM, aka the new @B&WSiteQ, he is a trendsetter, as once he stormed off, @Woodpecker also decided he had enough shenanigans and bolted out of there, too.  @Closer drafted in right behind @Woodpecker.  #TumblingDice

#Tclaps (or maybe #Cobains) to @BAM, @TheSingingCowboy and @Bluto for posting to both the 60s and 70s version of this workout.  YHC is not a fan of the Stones post 1980, so you will all be spared a continuation of this theme.  #YoureWelcome #ItsOnlyRockNRollButILikeIt

Speaking of Rock and Roll, here’s the playlist:

  • Jumpin’ Jack Flash (from Get Yer Ya-Ya’s Out!)
  • Can’t You Hear Me Knocking (from Sticky Fingers)
  • Brown Sugar (from Sticky Fingers)
  • Tumbling Dice (from Exile on Main Street)
  • Happy (from Exile on Main Street)
  • Doo Doo Doo Doo Doo (Heartbreaker) (from Goats Head Soup)
  • It’s Only Rock ‘n’ Roll (But I Like It) (from It’s Only Rock ‘N’ Roll)
  • Miss You (from Some Girls)
  • Shattered (from Some Girls)
  • Emotional Rescue (from Emotional Rescue)
  • She’s So Cold (from Emotional Rescue)
  • Start Me Up (from Tattoo You)
  • Hang Fire (from Tattoo You)
  • [Waiting on a Friend (from Tattoo You)]  *We didn’t have enough time for this one

Thanks for the honor and privilege of leading you fine gentlemen this morning.  And for obliging my music nerdiness.

Your friend who you kindly wait on,

Starfish

Strong workout in form and content, well planned and executed. Starfish was out front on the runs until the last couple when TSC got a second wind and started sprinting.

The Emotinal Rescue bit about the M was a joke but it did take some shenanigans to woo her.

Good to workout with HeadHunter and all the guys.
