The Rocking Recover Theory

I’ve had a few parking lot conversations with some pax recently about the concept of a workout designed for those who are recovering from injury and want something less boot-camp-ish. It’s been done in other regions and seemed like an interesting concept. And I suppose it’s TRQ or Parliament by another name, in some respects.

YHC decided to test his theory with a few guys who I knew would most likely not venture to a bootcamp convergence on Memorial Day. The result was some immediate and enthusiastic HCs (after some back and forth on how early to start on a holiday. 7 am seemed good.

So, that is how it came about. Nothin’ against a convergence or WeFoCo. It was a test of a theory: if we had a non-running, mostly stationary beatdown, would guys who would not otherwise post come out? I think it was a success, and the theory seems to hold.

We had an FNG so we gave all the formal preamble. After some warm-o-rama we did…

THE THANG

Amazingly, I could not find any actual dice at my house on Monday morning. I imagine they are all in Bloodsports’ room from his last DnD session with the homies, and I was not about to wake a sleeping teenager on a holiday at 6:30 a.m. to ask for a D20. Technogly had it for me, and the dice rolling app worked well, though some wondered about the settings.

Two dice: one gives the reps for a called ab exercise, one for a called merkin varital. All 6 of us rolled and we took a break with Lieutenant Dans in the covered area, then back to it. 20 sided die for the abs, standard 6 sided for the merkins. Guess which pax decided to add a modifier of 10 to each merkin number? Yeah, you got it.

The rain kind of slacked after three or so rounds, and we decided venturing to the rocks was a good way to eat up our last bit of time.  Pax went in a circle and called reps and rock routines for six good minutes, then we headed back to start.

Our FNG is Elijah, Frank and Beans 2.0. He’s into lots of standard teenager stuff, but indoor rock climbing sticks out. Pebble stuck immediately. It’s a solid name, and I think Green Acres gets the credit.

A great mostly dry morning with a solid crew, and one more member of the next generation has begun his inculcation…

Coffeteria followed at Eggs Up and Grill, which was excellent.

My gratitude for this group of men is immense. SYITG.

Love this and style of workout. Hate to have missed this one as someone who is recovering! Strong work, Emeritus- great idea! Sufficient enough BD by the sounds of it!

    Welcome Pebble!

Was an enjoyable morning! Good idea Wobegon and thanks for leading! (first I’ve heard that TRQ is a recovery workout. If YHC isn’t doing it right when Q’ing someone let me know 🤷‍♂️)
