We are SO Back. Or, the ReLaunch

What a great morning! Low 50s and a bit humid – enjoy it while we can this week. I was thrilled to see the turnout for the re-launch of the Launchpad AO that has laid dormant for about 18 months or so…Oak Summit Park is right by casa de Burns and is a great AO full of opportunities for strong beatdowns, and YHC introduced a couple of those options this AM. I rolled in at 0529 with coffee in tow…woulda been there earlier if I weren’t spending so much time brewing the Great Value Columbian Roast grinds. Some flack was expected for the near-tardiness to my own AO, but we let that roll right off our backs these days. Got the core principles and mission statement recited under the pavilion just in time to begin a nice WoR:
15 each (allegedly**) IC of SSH, Whirlies**, Mtn Climbers, Hillbillies, and then 10 IC Michael Phelps. **so much MC and literally no counting during the Whirlies.
The thang part 1 – 5×5. For cinco de mayo, YHC put together a set of 5 exercises that we would complete 5 times. The initial plan was to do 25 reps of each exercise each set, but some wise counsel from the nant’an go the Q to drop the rep count by 5 each time. Using the picnic tables in the shelter, the exercises were Irkins, Squats, Dips, Fast Feet, and LBCs. After each set, run to the end of the parking lot and back.
The thang part 2 – DORA. Grab a [reasonably sized] rock from under the bridge and head to the pickleball courts. Standard DORA procedures, where the transportation was a mosey across the courts & back. 100 OH Press, 200 Goblet Squats, 300 Curls. The short mosey meant more sets of lower reps for all.
Return the rocks and circle up back in the shelter for 3 mins o’Mary – American Hammers, Low Flutters, Alt. Shoulder Taps, and Mtn Climbers all x15IC.
NMM – Multiple texts from pax who were running late but still made it on time reinforced that #ItAintThatFar. It was awesome having JB at a bootcamp – he said the location might make him a semi-regular! Tami & Turnover missed the part of the rock-picking instructions where I said “don’t be a hero” and instead went for Green Acres styled rocks for DORA – and they paired up and crushed the whole thing. Post-beatdown coffeeteria was well attended, it probably won’t be a weekly thing but at least a once-a-month kinda deal. We only explored about 40% of the AO, we stayed off the playground, the track, and both fields due to the rain over the weekend but there’s a lot that the ‘pad has to offer a prospective Q. (could it be you? message me for open dates in June & July!). It’s nice having this AO so close to home, and our mission of planting, growing, and serving our communities lends itself to some expansion. We had a good run with Launchpad last time, and hopefully a bit more momentum this time around will help it stick and connect to some more guys up this way. Tell your friends & family that are up north of town to come check it out and help us keep giving it away!
Announcements – Another new north-side AO coming on Fridays – Rural Assault (suck it, city folk) will be at Woodland Baptist Church on Fridays at 0530, check Slack for details. Memorial Day Convergence coming up with a 0600 Murph and a 0700 running option and a 0700 bootcamp option. YHC is promoting National Trails Day with a trail run double down opportunity on Sat. 6/7 – Salem Lake in the morning w/coffeeteria and Hanging Rock Indian Creek Trail in the afternoon w/a dip in the Dan and a drink at the Ale House.
Prayers requested for the families of Tommy Murphy (a former WFU employee) and one of Schlitz’s reps, both passed away recently from different cancers. YHC took us out in rememberance of these two and with gratitude for this good thing that we got going. Transcript has the keys next week!
