Morning At The Improv aka Cardboard Stonehenge

QIC: Starfish

Date: 4/19/2025

PAX: Boomerang, The Pony Express, Green Acres (WD), Parkay (WB), Burlap, Splash, Bluto, Undertow, Tarzan, Lemming, Superfly, Mutton, Starfish (QIC)

YHC received a slack DM from @Undertow reminding YHC of a Q assignment at Purgatory which YHC did not have on his calendar.  We are going to stick with the story that the Site Q just assumed that YHC would take it when asked a while ago when actually YHC was supposed to be out of town for Easter Weekend so would have never committed to Qing on the Saturday of Easter Weekend.  Anyhow, YHC is fortunately in town and therefore pulled something together at the last minute to entertain the pax and to give them a chance to improvise and somewhat choose their own adventure.  Shortly after finding out about his assignment, YHC helped his M unpack a new coffee table that we shipped with a veritable $h!+-ton of cardboard boxes as cushioning.  So, we decided to reuse before we recycled and utilized the 12 boxes as station markers for this morning’s festivities, which kinda did look like a #CardboardStonehenge once we got it set up.  Here’s roughly what happened:

Warm-O-Rama

  • Toy Soldiers x10 IC (@Burlap commented that we know YHC is getting old when he starts off the workout with Toy Soldiers.  #PotKettleBlack
  • Abe Vigoda x10 IC
  • Whirly’s Got The Clap x10 IC
  • Copperhead Squats x10 IC
  • Copperhead Merkins x10 IC, hold it
  • Peter Parker x10 IC, hold it
  • Parker Peter x9 IC (oops)
  • Maybe a couple of other usual suspects, but as mentioned above, YHC is old and it has been a couple of hours so…

The Thang:  Morning At The Improv aka Cardboard Stonehenge

Pax split up among the 12 stations (YHC and @Tarzan partnered up since there were 12 stations and 13 pax).  12 Tabatas, 20 secs HIIT on, 10 secs rest for 8 rounds per station.  Tabata Timer over the speaker told us what to do when.  Each station provided a rough outline/theme/plot for what to do with the 4 minutes (hence the improv reference).  Stations were set up in the shape of a clock as follows:

  • 1:  SSH/IW/Hillbillies
  • 2:  Burpees (#crowdpleaser)
  • 3:  Plank-O-Rama (suggestions included Mountain Climbers, Peter Parker, Parker Peter, Plank, etc.)
  • 4:  Bench Work (suggestions included Dips, Derkins, Irkins, Step Ups, Box Jumps, etc.)
  • 5:  “Running” (in place, gassers, laps around the parking lot, etc.)
  • 6:  Heavy Bag Work
  • 7:  Arms (suggestions included Arm Swirlies, Pony Pleasers, OH Claps, Seal Claps, etc.)
  • 8:  Legs (suggestions included Squats, Lunges, MH (which stands for Monkey Humpers), etc.)
  • 9:  Ab-O-Rama
  • 10:  Merkins (choose your style)
  • 11:  Jump Rope (#anothercrowdpleaser)
  • 12:  Kettle Bell Work

COT/BOM:  YHC took us out

FIN.

NMM

See above for the setup and how we ended up staying in a circle the whole time.

Per YHC’s Garmin, it classified it as a “Sprint” workout with an aerobic value of 3.4 and anaerobic value of 2.4 and Exercise Load of 154.  Proving that one does not have to run a bunch to get the cardio going.  (#0.75miles)

No one had to count during this workout and the pax seemed to enjoy the improvisational aspects of the workout.  Particularly @PonyExpress who was seen eschewing the Kettle Bells at one point and loading up on #PonyPleasers during station 7.

Many pax, including @Superfly and @Lemming, noted that the stretch from 10-11-12-1-2 was tough sledding.  YHC wants it noted the care with which he tried to spread out arms, chest and leg work.

@GreenAcres was seen doing merkins at more than just Station 10. (Including at least Stations 3 and 9.)  #HuckleberryMerkinsOnHisOwnTime

@Splash was a bit perturbed by the Tabata guy running us 2 minutes over.  #Cobains.

@Boomerang was selling #TrustServices shortly after the workout and during #Coffeeteria.  #RetirementGig

Good to have @Parkay roll down the mountain and spend time with a bunch of old dudes (#WBByAMile)

@Bluto forced YHC to breakdown the cardboard before taking it to the recycling dropoff even though @Splash said that wasn’t necessary.  (#ConflictingMedicalAdvice)

@BAM memorialized the first WS F3 workout by showing up for coffeeteria (#FartSnack)

@Undertow was a big fan of the playlist and was the one who was able to #NameThatBand (#Eventually) when Pulp came on.

Speaking of the playlist, all songs excerpted from YHC’s “Best of 2025 (so far)” playlist and here it is:

  • Rushmere (Mumford & Sons)
  • Same Old Song (The Lumineers)
  • Trashcan (Matthew Logan Vasquez)
  • Dawn (Vulfmon)
  • It’s Amazing To Be Young (Fontaines D.C.)
  • Season of Charade (Birdtalker)
  • Knockin’ Heart (Hamilton Leithauser)
  • Wants Needs (Bartees Strange)
  • People Of Substance (Craig Finn)
  • The Night Before (The Black Keys)
  • Sensible (Sports Team)
  • Spike Island (Pulp)
  • Here We Go Crazy (Bob Mould)
  • Spangled (Fust)
  • catch these fists (Wet Leg)
  • Julia’s War (Hotline TNT)
  • Bonnet Of Pins (Matt Berninger)
  • Old Tape (Lucius)

Thanks for coming out and for the privilege and honor of leading you fine gentlemen.  #HappyEaster #HeIsRisen

Your friend,

Starfish
