Grumpy Bears part duex

QIC: Van Gogh

Date: 04/29/2025

PAX: @Lamb Chop, @Rollback, @Rubber Ducky (WD), @hedwig (WB, Kotters!), @van.gogh (QIC)

Back last February, YHC had a first iteration of this workout. It did not go well. Overall, lets just blame a local resident asking YHC (politely) to be quiet. This time around, the plan was to explain things away from the residents, across the street under shelter, and then move on to execute. We ended up not partnering up due to the lower turnout, and this enabled less bear crawling, less burpees, and more AMRAP; but also more Mumblechatter! Things went better this time around, here’s how it went:

Warm-o-rama

  • Mission Statement / Core Principles!
  • Mosey to Strollway
  • Stop at covered area before strollway
  • Partner up!

The Thang

  • The Grumpy Bear
    • PAX take turns doing incremental BURPEES at each light post, starting with one burpee at the first light; then BEARCRAWL to the next light post after completing burpees.
    • While the lone PAX (we will call him The Grumpy Bear) does their Burpees and Bearcrawl, the rest of the group is at the next light post ahead, doing AMRAP BOOTSTRAP SQUATS while they wait on the lone PAX.
    • When The Grumpy Bear arrives, another PAX volunteers to take their place and do the next round of burpees and bearcrawl, while the rest of the group mosey ahead to the next light post and do AMRAP bootstrap squats while they wait.
    • Continue this for 15 rounds (3 times per PAX), all the way up to 15 burpees.
  • Reset at 1 burpee, and change to AMRAP Hand Release Merkins (keep the bearcrawl)
    • Continue this for 10 rounds (2 times per PAX) all the way up to 10 burpees
  • Reset at 1 burpee, and change to AMRAP American Hammers (keep the bearcrawl)
    • Continue this for 10 rounds (2 times per PAX) all the way up to 10 burpees
  • Run home at 6:05
  • When at the uphill, climb up to the pedestrian bridge, engage Quadraphelia and run backwards allllllll the way up the hill.
    • Optional: Carry one of the PAX on your back while backpedalling up! (Thanks, Hedwig!)

Mary:

  • Hold plank for <30 seconds

CoT:

  • Prayers for Lambchop’s wife who is pregnant.
  • YHC gave an update on my mother in law and wife.
  • YHC took us out giving thanks for the group thanks for the strollway, thanks for the ability to wake up and do stupid stuff like this, and ask that we go forth and shine a light where it needs to be shone!

NMM:

  • In total, we got 2.2 miles. Rollback got in 220 burpees, and the PAX likely got at least 300 Bootstraps, 150 HR Merkins, and 200 American Hammers.
  • Kotters to @Hedwig! His first post of the year, and hopefully the first of many more. He doesn’t seem to have lost a step, except for running backwards up hill?? Rather than do that, he ran forward to catch YHC and then jumped on YHCs back unannounced and “made” me carry him up the hill. YHC appreciated the challenge (completed it successfully), which definitely made it harder, and YHC might use for a future Q!
  • Conversation also ensued about how Covid killed lots of carry partner work, which most of the PAX didn’t seem to mind.
  • Rollback hit his burpee quota and then some for the day, you are most welcome, sir!
  • I think Lambchop approved of the redux of the last time we attempted this, which resulted in a bunch of confused PAX, scared Turnover (YHCs partner), and a good time overall.
  • Rubber Ducky was also there the first time and gave his overall approval. He did execute the first run incorrectly by running back to start, and YHC thinks he might have done it on purpose to mess with me.
  • We all agreed that the HR Merkins were a horrible idea, and a great way to inhale pollen off the ground.
  • When all the PAX are asking for a reset, you know you are doing things right. Such was the case with the initial round, and HR Merkins.
  • We all seemed to like the American Hammer round, and because it was AMRAP we discussed the pros and cons of TRex Hammer arms versus Straight Hammer arms; all of which came up after YHC expressed the best Hammer arms are the ones that touch each side – Full range of motion for the win!
  • We did have a lengthy discussion about the various things Hedwig has found inside places where they shouldn’t belong. If you want to know, you should have posted!

YHC has Rubber Ducky on deck to Q next week, which will probably be his last Q for a while as he gets into a crazy busy work season. Come out and enjoy it!
