For the next Picasso

For the next Picasso

Pax:  Root Canal (WD), Burns (WB), Greenspan, Toe Tag

One of the legendary Pax, Van Gogh found himself double booked and unable to go to The Outhouse today. We had been exchanging texts about his recent Disney half marathon and opportunities to join him for a lunch time run. It finally dawned on YHC at 10p that Van Gogh needed a substiQ so the offer reluctantly went out. Van Gogh was off the clock and it was time to put together something for a crowd that would be expecting Van Gogh. This would not be an easy task since YHC has not Q’ed in sometime and even when posting regularly, YHC could not put together a Van Gogh style beatdown.

YHC had been really touched by the recent tweet from Picasso of F3 Summerville about getting 47 minutes of CPR and also about the tweet of some Pax performing CPR to save a person who collapsed on a baseball field. YHC immediately liked and retweeted these examples of the importance of knowing basic life saving skills. This brought up not so fond memories of a Flatline workout where one Pax would do CPR while the rest of the Pax were doing an exercise for a minute.

YHC arrived and discussed with the Site Q Greenspan that YHC was filling in for Van Gogh. YHC did not tweet out an update since it was late when the decision was made, and also didn’t want to dissuade any Pax from attending by letting them know that Van Gogh wouldn’t be there. Greenspan had planned on leading since he knew that Van Gogh was unavailable, but he turned over the duties to YHC after we both said that our workouts were probably going to suck.

The Thang: Yes, that’s right Joey we jumped right in like at Flatline. , if someone doesn’t have a pulse you should start CPR*.  We started with one Pax doing CPR on our “FNG” (CPR trainer) while the rest of Pax would do a round of 3 exercises for 1 minute each and then run a lap around the pirate ship.  This would give each Pax the chance to do CPR for about 5 minutes at a time.

The ThangSet 1 – Merkins, Squats, American Hammers Run a lap Set 2 – Derkins, Split Squats R, Low Flutter Run a lap Set 3 – Irkin, Split Squats L, Low Dolly Run a lap Set 4 – Ball to the Wall, Step Ups R, Penguin Crunch Run a lap Set 5 – Australian Mountain Climbers, Step Ups L, WWIIs Run a lap Set 6 – Chest to Object, Box Jumps, Box Cutters Run a lap Set 7 – Alternating Shoulder Taps, Lunges R, Sweat Angels Run a lap Set 8 – Plank Jacks, Lunges L, SSH Run a lap Set 9 – Unders, Wall Sits 0r Al Gore, Jack Reachers Done

NMM: The spirit and intent of this workout was to reinforce the importance of the need to do good CPR. We discussed the general approach to a person you find down or you see collapse. There are times when you need to do more than CPR but it is a great start while someone is calling 911 and waiting for help to arrive. CPR is a skill that will save lives and it has been used on some of our brothers and other members of our community. Every Pax needs to learn how to do CPR. This workout or back blast in no way takes the place of legitimate CPR instruction and should not be taken as medical advice. Everyone needs to take a class and learn how to do CPR and apply an AED. It could save someone’s life. Also, please make sure that someone at every workout has a phone with them to call 911. We ran 2 minutes over in the workout as a tribute to Picasso and his 47 minutes of CPR. The four Pax present today did 47 minutes of CPR and a bunch of exercises and some running in between rounds of CPR. There was no time for a break today, since if we were not doing compressions then the “FNG” would die. What a great group to be with this morning. They all were strong and cruised through the workout and the rounds of CPR with no problems. Burns admitted that he has not posted on a Tuesday yet since he didn’t picture himself as much of a runner. He needs to accept that he is a runner. He was moving on the run and didn’t even get out of breath while YHC was struggling to keep up. Root Canal told Burns that he was basically doing Flatline today and that he would do fine at any workout. Second that. Greenspan has some wheels. He turned on a little sprint right at the end of the lap a couple of times. Makes one think that Greenspan is gearing up for Speed Trap. Root Canal was strong as always and was more than happy to call out the time remaining during exercises so that the Pax would stay motivated. YHC truly appreciates the support and fellowship this morning (and every morning) and enjoyed the late start time for a workout but did miss the Teachers Pets early run crew. You should all read the post from Picasso. Also, watch the following video for some helpful tips.

This workout was not sanctioned by Mongoose or the AMA or any other accrediting organization. It was for entertainment purposes only. *Please seek professional instruction on CPR and AED use as well as basic first aid skills and always carry a phone at a workout.

Announcements: Shmedfest is coming up in less than a year Swiss Miss is also rumored to be having a birthday this year

COT: YHC took the group out giving thanks for us all having the opportunity and ability to be out supporting and pushing each other and asking for light to help us see the path to being the people that we want to be and to be the change we want to see in the world. We also want to remember Greenspan’s father who is crushing his cancer treatment with no problems. Also, please remember Burlap and his family as they deal with the life without his father. It is never easy to lose a parent and once the numbness wears off the reality of loss will hit at random times and that is where we all come in. Reach out to him and other Pax who have lost loved ones and let them know that you are there for them whenever they need someone to lean on.

Everything about this workout and backblast were rock solid. ToeTag = HIM. Thanks, brother.

Thanks for being there this morning and giving up the Q. Sorry for the last minute switch and lack of publicity. At least there were no pull ups or burpees.

      Aye!

Great looking workout and a good message: learn CPR. On my list for 2019 to renew my certification. Thank you for making a difference TT!

Like @GreenSpan said, @ToeTag is a #HIM. Came through for me in a pinch, YHC again greatly appreciates the last minute sub. And for a guy who hasn’t Q’d in a while, this beatdown looks more than sufficient (it’s also educational and practical)! PAX definitely got their money’s worth, strong work!

Thanks for the opportunity VG, you were missed but remembered fondly. There was concern when I mentioned that we had talked about what to do today and somehow 100 burpees came up. Fortunately, they did not show up today.
