PAX: van gogh, rubber ducky, ziggy stardust, subfloor, dr. toot, drip, boo boo, crash

YHC had the q for alcatraz. it was promising to be clear and sunny. late evening it looked like thunderstorms all morning, yhc prepared something overnight to work out under shelter for both supermax and alcatraz if lightning was overhead. despite lightning in the distance, and, terrible weather and driving on the way in, things cleared up enough to run and murph in light rain, and have our workout in light or no rain. turned out just about perfect.

a note. this workout was conceived and executed about 2 years ago, and resurrected for this day. may have something to do with getting a little older or experience but not anxious about q’ing. that was a constant for about 3 -4 years starting out. wondering about what to plan, worrying if pax would show up, all that stuff. maybe theres just other things to worry about, just wasn’t as much a concern.

first, those in attendance for supermax:

hawkeye, van gogh, bullwinkle, dr. toot, rubber ducky, crash

Alcatraz this past saturday was fun.

the cardboard for this workout was so simple which is good b/c it quickly withered in the rain and we did not look at it.

it only said 3 things of substance and those were

hang ’em high

tumbleweeds

the alamo

warmup

we did side straddle hops, abe vigodas, forward and backward arm swirly things, a couple of burpees, imperial storm troopers, hillbillies.

we went to the pull up bars where we did the preliminaries for hang em high

60 seconds dead hang (yhc counted seconds for most of these, other than the ones where dr. toot counted)

we did something from there like

45 second dead hang

30 second dead hang

15 second dead hang

then we headed to tumbleweeds, this was flipping the tires. 2 groups, one of 3 pax and one of 4.

the idea is the pax take turns flipping the tires, we chose the middle and smaller ones.

if one pax needs assistance, the pax behind should step up to help. so we ended up with some pax doubling up for the tire flip. it wasn’t really a contest but with 2 groups moving tires in a straight line one end of the parking lot to the other, it turns into a good natured contest.

all the way down the parking lot behind pull up bars and back. i’d say maybe 100 yards total? during the way back, boo boo showed up!

3rd thing, the alamo

2 groups of pax (the same groups in this case, by choice i suppose) build a fort. 2 fantastic forts were built. carrying all the blocks and building materials to build the most impregnable fort possible, take a couple pictures that were part of the backblast, then, with timing, we did the

hang ’em high again

we started with i think 40 seconds. then dr toot started staring yhc down as if he wanted to count. so he counted the next round of 30 seconds at a more realistic, slower pace.

next round was about 20 seconds, maybe 15

last round was also counted by dr. toot and was, you might have guessed it, 11 seconds

then we did the

tumbleweeds

except this was only one tire, all the pax rotating through, a couple or a few pairs and the rest single pax.

down the parking lot and back.

then we got the blocks out, did some various exercises

curls, overhead press, upright rows, hay balers which are like elf on the shelf, some of the other exercises had western names also.

all through this there was a decent amount of 2nd F and a playlist that was appropriate to the theme.

for mary we did a few things maybe some box cutters, heels to heaven, and ring of fire starting with 5 merkins.

overall folks seemed to enjoy it.

rubber ducky and van gogh ignored all requests to flip the tire only once and would flip 2 or 3 in a row.

dr. toot, rubber ducky and van gogh were a formidable trio.

yhc did most tire flipping with boo boo once he arrived.

ziggy and drip did their tire flipping together

subfloor was a beast. ducky says we need to flip the tire around the whole church.
