Oligarchy at Purgatory
QIC: Green Acres
Date: 5-17-25
PAX: Starfish @boomerang @Splash @Bulldog @Bluto @Burlap @PonyExpress @Lemming @Lamb Chop @D-Day @Linus and FNG Brandon, now Pink Slip (WB), and Backstroke DR from Raleigh, and YHC (WD, Q)
Instead of the slight chance of rain and 68 degrees forecasted, we arrived at Speas to cooler temp and steady rain. The planned workout vs staying under shelter? YHC decided to experiment with oligarchy, the latest rage in government, and asked Splash what we should do. It was decreed that we would stay dry. 😄. So we warmed up with the usual, first reciting the MS and CP since we had an FNG! Then instead of the planned benchwork with various inclinations of merkins and dips, step ups, and squats at the Rec Center, we just alternately did 17 IC sets of squats to calf raises and merkins x 3 sets and dry docks x 1 set under cover, until Bluto offered “lunges?” so subbed that for a set of squats, 4 rounds of each = 136 merkins. Then some loflutter and LBC, then repeated all that. Then we crab walked to one end of the cover, lunge walked back to the other end, then bear crawled back to the end. YHC was pondering the next move, and had planned pull-ups etc but that would get us wet. I mused aloud about this dilemma at which point Pony Express took off (reminiscent of LEROY JENKINS!!) for the far pull-up bars near the tennis courts. We followed him into the pouring drizzle. 😅. At the pull-up bars we did 5 rounds of 10 pull-ups, 20 merkins, and 30 squats. Then back to start for Mary: more 17’s IC of lo-flutter, Mutton crunch, box cutters, LBC, 17 WWII OYO and 3 Huck merkins. Since Lambchop and Splash needed to leave and we had an FNG to name, ended 3 minutes early. You’re welcome 😇.
Brandon works in HR so Starfish and Burlap quickly arrived at Pink Slip, so welcome Pink Slip!! He said at coffeteria he’s been wanting to find a group of guy friends and get back in college days shape, so I think he’s a great new addition for our cult. 😄. He came with Backstroke here from Raleigh. He’s been in F3 about a month and has great enthusiasm for the group. It was a great morning with a great bunch of HIM and a pleasure to kinda lead some of the time. 🤣. Got in 375 merkins if you count the Dry Docks.
D-Day can bear crawl as fast as a bear. We all got a good sweat going. Maybe got wetter than being in the rain. 🤷♂️. Lambchop told Brandon that we don’t always do so many merkins and it was my fault. Backstroke has a baby girl due in a month. Splash and YHC agreed we did almost too many squats. Other pax were too far away for me to hear any MC over my huffing and puffing, but was happy to see conversations all around.
Prayers were offered for thankfulness for able bodies, aging parents and family members, the ability to be good vessels for God’s love – receiving and pouring out as needed, and for making good decisions.
Thanks for the keys Undertow! They should still be under the shelter.
