It’s Playoff Time!
QIC: Doublewide
Date: 04.28.2025
PAX: Bueller, Mongoose, Palin, ‘Bout Time, Turnover, Mutton, Burlap, Juicebox, Mater, Pollster, Woodpecker, Burns, Bevo
Rollback was nursing an injury, so he called many people to try and Q for him. When they all said no, he lastly turned to me and I humbly accepted the responsibility. The theme was easy – my favorite sport just started the playoffs, so the Gun portion would be NBA-themed.
The Thang:
We launched from Shaffner Park and ran down the trail and looped back on Yorkshire.
I showed up just after 0500, expecting to be alone, when I saw 2 headlamps of Burns and Bevo, out early, to tackle the route not once but twice. Strong work! While they ran the entire thing, I only did part of it on my own, just getting back by 0530 to run with the group.
Somehow (this never happens), I was out front for most of the trail portion until the PAX grew tired of my slower pace and soon passed me once we got to the (first) hill. Turnover was gracious enough to stay with me and we chatted about all things NBA, NFL, and his love for all Charlotte teams even though the Hornets just missed the playoffs (by 20 games. But next year!).
Once we all returned, we gathered on the tennis courts for your standard F3 exercises with an NBA playoff twist. Reverse lunges became “James Harden Step Backs”. Peter Parkers became Donovan Mitchell “Spidas”. Squat jumps became “Dominique Wilkins Leaps”. Steph Curry (who I sports-hate), who is like a cockroach who can’t be killed, so we did Dying Cockroaches for him. In honor of the best player in basketball, we did Serbian Hammers for Jokic. LeBron James, who (quite ironically now) is like someone who keeps coming back to life, was honored with Zombie Crunches. (Note: there were no called exercises for my least favorite player, Kevin Durant). At the end, we honored what Jimmy Butler did to the Heat with 20 seconds of Body Destroyers. Time was called.
No announcements, no spoken prayer requests. YHC took us out.
Naked Man Moleskin
- Mongoose, Pollster, and ‘Bout Time were in the lead pack most of the run…as is common for most runs I come to
- I haven’t seen Bueller in like 6 months but now I’ve seen him twice in the last few weeks. I like this trend!
- We had a fairly quiet Gun circle, yet Palin was there. Strange.
- Good to see both Juicebox and Woodpecker, who are battling their own injuries, yet still came out and crushed it
- One of my first times posting with Mater, and hope there’s many more to come
- Grateful to see that Burlap did not lead Mutton astray as he’s known to do
- Burns, as mentioned before, ran the route twice with Bevo. First time was backwards, which, in his words, “sucked”. That’s why I designed it the way I did – so you would avoid the hills.
- Speaking of Bevo, he claims his legs were shot and told Burns he hoped we did no lower body for the Gun…and I led with reverse lunges and squat jumps. Whoops!
- I was fortunate to hear that Turnover did not try to get me to buy into an amazing business opportunity
All in all, grateful we’re in one of my favorite seasons, with great basketball on every night and the cool temps in the gloom. Thankful to be able to lead this morning!
