The Bathrooms Open at 9am

QIC: Double Wide

Date: 11.14.2022

PAX: ‘Bout Time, Red Eye, Bueller, Woodpecker, Bam, Juicebox, Balco, Mutton, Closer

And all of a sudden, winter is here.

I’ve been enjoying morning runs with temps in the crisp 50s but for sure would NOT have come out this morning when it’s sub 30 (so we just skip the 40s like that??). Closer, probably knowing my tendency to be lazy (and warm), asked me to Q and that’s literally the only reason I showed up. Grateful for people like him to push me to be better versions of myself.

The route was a simple loop from Reynolda Village, around Wake campus, down and back on Faculty, and back on the trail to Reynolda Village. So simple I don’t think Juicebox even used his laminator for this one.

Balco and ‘Bout Time led the way, as per usual. Being 5:30am and my brain not adjusted to the cold, I kept pace and made a comment at the start of the run to the runner on my left, thinking he was Juicebox, and realized in horror it was Balco, which meant I was going WAY too fast. I found pace with Red Eye and Closer, whom I picked the latter’s brain for his thoughts about Paisley.

Maybe the biggest shock of the morning was that not only did Woodpecker make it to the beginning of the run, but he was there before me. He purposely told me NOT to pick him up this am because he “didn’t want to make the Q late.” You underestimated yourself this time!

I didn’t see Bam during the run until the way back on Faculty. Before we could ask why, he shared a vital piece of news during our announcements: the public bathroom is definitely closed and locked until 9am.

During the tabata, it was a collective group effort to help me remember the names of the exercises (another reminder I need to come not only more often to F3 but to more non-running AOs). We did some squats, some lunges, some of those things where you lay on your back and swipe your legs back and forth (re: low flutters). There were more but who cares and everyone seemed OK with the (mostly ad-libbed) selection.

Prayers for Burlap’s dad who returns from the DR today. Praises for Juicebox’s wife who’s doing better but will probably need shoulder surgery before Christmas and Woodpecker got clean results back from his blood work earlier this week. He’s also feeling better and running faster since taking Vitamin D supplements (that is, before the placebo effect was shattered when he found out that those supplements don’t really work).

As always, thanks for keys and for the push today, Closer. Happy to lead any time you’ll have me

    Clarification
Burlap went to the DR. Not sure his father is still living
I thought Double Wide and I chatted before the run, guess not. YHC was the 6, but that’s normal. Locked bathrooms just delayed Tabata participation, but was able to make it home. So, not a full Whirly.
    Good times!!
