The Thang:

Before we even started, Dr. Toot wanted to know if there was cardboard. YHC informed him there was no cardboard and had nothing to worry about. It was much worse.

Everyone got a rock, since this is Alcatraz, and made sure it was one you wanted to spend a lot of time with. Met up with the Q in the parking lot as YHC was setting up the signs, thanks Adobe.

YHC dug really deep into the AO for the theme. What better workout for the AO than a Prison Workout, one you could do if you’re serving 15 to 20 years in a 6 by 8 cell.

Since we didn’t have cells, a parking space had to suffice. Everyone picked a spot with one in between each PAX. In honor, or I guess it would be infamy, the workout was set up based on 2 infamous prisoners at Alcatraz Island prison: Alvin “Creepy” Karpis 26 years at Alcatraz and Robert Stroud “The Birdman” serving 17 years, including 6 in solitary.

Most started with Merkins, Squats, Squat Jumps, Curls, Bus Drivers, OH Press, Skull Crushers, and WW2. The first set was 17 and every other set was 10. Some started in Solitary Confinement which was Merkins, Squat Twist, Burpees, Curls, Skull Crushers, and LBCs. First set 26, then 10. Everyone did their sets in their spot following the killer prison music the YHC had picked. Once the next song started, they bear crawled their rock 2 spots and started over. Each PAX moved along until they reached Solitary. Once done there, they rifle carried their rock to the beginning spot.

Here were the tunes. Prison Song by System of a Down, Breaking the Law by Judas Priest, Smooth Criminal covered by Alien Ant Farm, In the Jailhouse Now by The Soggy Bottom Boys, Jailhouse Rock by Elvis Presley, My Own Prison by Creed, Ballad of the Barbie Bandits by Marty Friedman, Folsom Prison Blues by Johnny Cash, Back on the Chain Gang by The Pretenders, Prisoner of Society by The Living End, Take No Prisoners by Megadeth, Rusty Cage by Soundgarden, and Jailbreak by Thin Lizzy.

That’s right, 13 songs, so probably well over 130 of each exercise. Could have been close to 1000 reps total. Gretel looked strong throughout. Bullwinkle left early on good behavior. Van Gogh complained he didn’t see the sun during his only hour outside in the yard. I think Crash was the only one who went through Solitary once. Cruiser was strong as always. Russell2000 didn’t get any sympathy from a fellow West Coaster. Dr. Toot was searching for an opportunity to start a prison riot. YHC was grateful no one had a shiv.

We ended with Mary Jane’s Last Dance and did a short PAX choose Mary. Adobe was especially delirious and called for Hello Dolly. We weren’t sure what he met, but roasted him all the same.

Circle of Trust:

Praise for Thistle that his health has improved and prayer for future hip replacement.
