Okay, here’s the situation…

It’s come to my attention that I keep doing these Adam Sandler \ Sports themed workouts. And some of you guys MAY be getting a little fed up with it. So, since this was my first time attending a VI workout and leading one ( VQ @ VI ), I didn’t know the terrain too well. I had to check with @Sea-Man about the layout. He said there were plenty of options for a workout at the Jerry Long YMCA in Clemmons; all sorts of setups for a good beatdown, including a couple of baseball fields.

“What’s that, baseball….Adam Sandler has never been in a baseball movie. How are you going to pull that one off @Adobe?” And although, technically, The Bench Warmers was produced by Sandler and Happy Madison Productions; you’d be right…He wasn’t in this baseball movie. DRAT!

Ahhhh, there was still hope though. Thanks to the little known platforms of Netflix and YouTube ( who knew, right? ), I stumbled upon a scene from The Ridiculous 6. I’ve never seen this movie (( shame on me )), but there is one scene that explains the origin story of Sticky McSchnickens, AKA Baseball. And guess who appears in it?….that’s right! Crisis averted. I got to stick with my normal schtick.

Let the games begin.

Actually, the games got started before I arrived. 8 awesome PAX had already completed a 2 mile EC run. No hazing from the PAX was experienced for not showing up for that. Grace!

Warm-O-Rama:
We started with a little SSH, Arm Swirlies F&B, intentionally slow Abe Vagoda, Whirly w. clap, and 10 Merkins OYO. ( I learned that Merkins were not actually a warm up…Who knew? )

The THANG:

We call this workout the Ballad of Sticky McSchnickens.

We moseyed down to the lower baseball field, which had no lighting. ( No PAX were injured during this mosey. )

In honor of the creation of America’s Game, which really does seem like that made it up as they were going, we teamed up in groups of two or three and everyone grabbed a bag……base.

Home Plate exercises were the pacesetters for the other 3 bases. While everyone at Home Plate completed X number of Burpees plus an extra exercise, all other bases did AMRAP for the one exercise listed on their cards. Once the Home Plate team finished, they yelled “Switch” and all groups rotated to the next base. Various methods of travel were performed to get to the next base ( Sprint, Bear Crawl, Crawl Bear, and Backwards run ).

First, Second, and Third Base had 4 different cycles of exercises. We did all 4 Innings.

Once all rounds were complete, one PAX said, “we’re all done, what do we do now?” LOVE the enthusiasm! So the Q decided to add some filler.

We did a lap “around” the outfield. (Ended up being around the baseball field and the soccer field, but who’s counting?) Then we did more Merkins, just for good measure.

MARY:

We moseyed back up to the main parking lot and got on our 6 for some group called Mary routines. Everyone got to call an exercise; team sport. We finished with alternating Upper and Lower planks. TIME!

COT:

Name-O-Rama:

Announcements: Two upcoming 5K’s are happening this month. Both are supporting good causes. Come out and walk…run, whatever. Check Slack.

Prayer requests: None were mentioned. YHC took us out.

NMM:

In my mind, I thought it went pretty well! Everyone put in the work today. Great job men.

I’m pretty sure there were some “What in the world did he call this?” and “Man this Q needs to get a life and stop watching so many movies”, but all in all, it was a great way to start the week. Can’t wait to get back out in the gloom with you guys soon.
Thank you for the push. Thank you for the effort. Thank you for always leaving it all on the field.
