On this Day…at The Iron Throne

QIC: Airbag

Date: May 2, 2022

PAX: Spamalot, Crash, Palin, Ziggy Stardust, Schlitz, Transcript, Lamb Chop, Drip, Frostbite, Zima

On a clear and humid morning, 11 pax descended upon the grounds of Sherwood Forest Elementary for what appeared to be a typical Iron Throne-y type beatdown by yours truly.  The planets (4 of them in fact, Venous, Jupiter, Mars and Saturn) were aligned across the night sky, signaling an auspicious start to the day.  The twist was that at 6 points in the workout the Pax would have to answer a trivia question.  Every answer was a year in which a specific event occurred on this day (5/2) in history.  A two to three year grace period was allowed for the early questions. All answers were chronological.  Correctly answered questions resulted in cheers, incorrectly answered questions resulted in sadness expressed in the form of burpees.  The number of required burpees doubled with each passing question so 1, 2, 4, 8, 16 and the last question had 32 burpees on the line.  The pax was advised to think hard about q’s 5 and 6.

The Pax gathered for WOR and we began.  Spamalot reminded me I could not phone in the 5 tenets so they were duly recited (successfully albeit out of order, there’s an order?)

WOR

SSH x 10, Plank 30 seconds, Downward Dog 30 seconds, T push ups x 10 (alternative arms up in the air), IST x 15, Mountain Climber x 10

Q1: On this day in history Leonardo Da Vinci died.  What year was it?  Amazingly the Pax got it within 2 years, 1519!  No burpees.  Credit – don’t recall, team effort?

The Thang

Phase 1 – Alternating run.  Mosey to drop off entrance.  Split Pax in half.  One group runs up to a strategically placed lantern while the other group does the exercise.  Exercises were Arm Swirlies, Squats, Jack Reachers, Lunges, Moroccan Night Clubs and Fast Feet.  Everybody did 6 sprints in the end.

Q2: On this day in history the Louisiana Purchase was ratified.  What year was it?  Amazingly they got it again, 1803!  Deduced by the fact that Jefferson was president.  Credit – Ziggy Stardust.

Phase 2 – Blocks. Mosey to back parking lot.  Pax grab cinder blocks.  First set of exercises were curls, block merkins, deadlift all x 20.  In between each we did high knees, butt kickers and Apollo Creed down to the end of the lot and back.

Q3: On this day in history, GM purchased Chevrolet.  What year?  Pax got this one wrong, the answer is 1918.  4 burpees.  Credit for the wrong answer is shared among the Pax.

Blocks again, 3 sets, same runs in between.  Overhead press, squat and triceps press x 20

Q4: On this day in history, the Loch Ness monster is spotted and recorded in print.  What year.  Pax strike again and guess within 3 years of 1933!  Credit, Lamb Chop.

Phase 3 – Mosey to picnic tables for the finale.  We do the following four exercises in sequence for 15 reps, then 10 reps, then 5 reps with a short break between 15 and 10 for the last two questions.  Irkins, Dirkins, Step ups, dips.

Q5: On this day in history, the Germans surrendered in WWII.  What year?  Pax nailed this one.  1945.  Multiple right answers here but led once again by Ziggy.

Q6: On this day in history, Bin Laden was killed.  What year?  Palin emphatically stated 2011.  There was a bit of trepidation since 32 burpees were on the line.  Ziggy concurred, they were right and everybody rejoiced.

Mary – Group effort, LBCs, J-Lo’s, low flutter, mutton crunch, 15 degrees.

Announcements, check out VQ’s by Transcript coming up this week at BnW.  Palin will take the reigns at iron throne next week.  Boo Boo has conspiracy on Wednesday.

Prayers for those suffering and thanks for the many blessings we had and the ability to be out this morning.
